TV for Gaming Need to Buy in The Next Few Weeks

I just moved to Sydney and the removalist didn't pack my TV's well so they were damaged. I am now getting paid the full amount for the TV's as they were less than 12months old. The insurance company will be taking the TVs to dispose of in the next 2 weeks.
I will be off work for a few weeks from the 12MAY15 for surgery so a TV is essential for this date.

I want:
Low input lag (SONY best known for this)
Quality Panel
50inch or more
Max spend $2000.

Don't really care for 4k or any smart features (have pi with KODI).

I tried to match the boxing day sale price for a sony KDL60W600B for $998. But the best price JB can do now is $1166.

I hate feeling rushed into a buy and much prefer to wait out for a sale. But will need TV when Im stuck at home. I will just miss out on the EOFY sales.

Should I be waiting for a bargain between here and there? Where is a good place to keep my eye out for sales other than OZb?

Will there be any sales I should expect between now and the 12MAY15 to hold out for? I know I will see EOFY sales that will make me cringe. But that's OK.

Open to any suggestions for a TV with the above criteria. All help is appreciated.
Cheers OZb!

  • u got a computer screen with hdmi?
use that while you wait for a sale, that's what I did when I moved into a new house and waited for a sale

  • My big tv decided to die a week before my surgery last month. I asked 'my media guy' at Joyce Mayne (Harvey Norman) about it all. He said the new 2015 models were beginning to trickle in, but because the AU dollar has dropped to the US dollar, they are all a great deal more expensive according to their computer sales screen. I decided to buy a 24 inch to use while I'm laid up in bed and then wait to buy a larger 2014 model when the 2015's come in. He says they'll probably be on sale around June. I got a 24 inch for $169 & free shipping from Kogan. Does the job just fine…..

  • Computer screen is definitely a viable option. As I intended on getting one for the home office at some point. How have yourself up so the 24inch screen is within a decent viewing distance and you are still resting? I am getting knee surgery so I will more than likely be on my couch.

  • prolly should get a 27 inch (they are around 350 these days)

prolly need to place it on a coffee table (ikea 10 bucks)
    wireless controllers required too

  • I ended up getting the panasonic 55 inch uhd at DSE for $1298. Not the cheapest it has been. But the best value for current time I could find that fit the bill. Found some reviews from hdtvtest that are quite positive for similar models. Hoping that the input lag on this one is similar to the one reviewed (36ms) which was great for a current model 4k.

I will still look for a cheap gaming monitor. But no rush now. :)
    Cheers for the help!
