Best Time to Book Flights etc. to USA

Hey everybody,

I'm looking to take a trip to the US next year around June/July and then travel around the US either doing a (really) long road trip or just hit a couple of the big cities through flying.

So that I have a good year notice I was wondering if anybody experienced in getting cheap flights could suggest the best time to book flights/accommodation for the US of A during the year. Also the best method (travel agent, booking site, maybe airlines have special deals every couple of months?)

Thanks in advance for any responses. :)

There are some great USA prices ATM posted here.
Not sure if they're available that far out.
Sign up to Southwest airlines for their sales (domestic west coast). You'll get the hang of their promos over the coming months.

Flight prices are mostly dependent on the dates you want to fly. You can see the price fluctuations on comparison sites like http://www.skyscanner.com.au etc. Just select 'whole year' for the dates.

The best way is to be patient and wait for the preferred airline to have a sale on your route and hope it falls within your travel dates.

  • Thanks fellas!
Yeh i'll continue to scourer the site in the coming months, hopefully ill find something good.
Kinda guessed that it mostly depends on dates.

Also flying out from sydney which city would it be best to land in? I'm guessing LA?

    • Sometimes for $1 more you can land in Las Vegas instead of LAX, or for $100 more land in NY - then you could backtrack home via Hawaii. So many options.

QF A380 to LAX or DFW.

    United (UA) goes to SFO.

The best price for flights are the ones that you book 365 days in advance :)

  • if you have some Qantas points, it'll be a good time to make use of them for the US domestic flights..
The flights most likely will be AA flights, but it's very cheap rather than paying for it.

  • We booked Dec 15 flights a couple of months ago and know we got a good deal ($1250) but the flights had pretty much only just been released just prior…so not sure if you would even see the flights available for June/July next year but i'd definitely keep an eye on prices now especially leading up to the June/July period as that would give you a good indication of how long before June/July you can score a good deal.
