Best bank card for travel for 18 year old

Hello guys,

I was just wondering I just turned 18 and I am booked to go Singapore and Hong Kong in November.
I tried applying for 28degrees but got declined as I am not employed yet and do not earn enough.
Just wondering which bank card has the lowest fee or no fees and would let me apply for one?
thanks guys

    citibank plus

    http://www.citibank.com.au/plus3/

    no monthly fee
    no overseas atm withdrawl fees
    no overseas transaction fees

    • This is great, I applied for a 28 degrees credit card the other day but this is way better!

  • If you are "not employed yet and do not earn enough" how are you paying from the trip?

If you have the money saved up try a Citibank VISA Debit Card, with no currency conversion fees.

If you are "not employed yet and do not earn enough" how are you paying from the trip?

Savings? Gift from parents/relative after finishing school? Money from previous job? Works part time / casual but not enough to qualify for a credit card ? etc

I'm pretty sure the 28 degrees card has a requirement to have a full time job and earn above a certain amount.

Anyway OP use the citi bank plus card and you can get a travel card from your regular bank as a backup is what I'd do.

          No problems.

I HIGHLY recommend having a backup method and keep it separate in case you loose your wallet (or it gets stolen - unlikely in Singapore but a good habit)

        • @knick007: thanks heaps !
Just a question, is there a lot of arms in Singapore or hong kong where i could withdraw money without fees?
          thanks !

        • @david2135rla: I haven't traveled there much and when I have it has been with my parents who have managed the financial side of things.

Umm I'd say citibank in Singapore might give you no fees here are the ATM locations so I guess find one near your accommodation when the time comes… I'm not sure if you need to use citibank atms or can use any brand. Hopefully someone else can answer that.

You probably won't need much cash - you can just use your card… When I traveled to the US recently I didn't really ever use cash.

        • @david2135rla: i dont remember which atm exactly i used, but ive been to both sg and hk and have not gotten charged atm fees once. if it helps you, citibank have a presense in both sg and hk

  • Well… They would ALL allow you to apply, but probably won't approve your application.

  • Credit card or just a debit/re loadable card?

    • Just a debit/reloadable
