Is it possible to have a deposit returned to your credit card without having the CC present?

Generally, if one made a deposit on a product ordered in store by credit card (say 10% of the full price) but it was later agreed by the buyer and seller to cancel the sale and return the deposit, can the deposit only be returned when the customer is present at the store with the credit card in hand? Or can it be done, for example, over the phone?

Or just does it simply depend on the store's policies?

Cheers

  • Since you are the seller, than i'm sure that you can just rip the check or in this case credit card payment hope this helps!!

Is he the seller? No mention of it in the post….

  • You mean like just forget about the sale, or like a chargeback? Either way you don't have to be there.

    • Yep, forget. I paid a deposit (so they took the funds out of my account I believe) but now the sale will not go ahead. OK, that's good to know.

  • You can do a charge back over the phone i.e without the credit card being there…

  • The seller can just contact their bank and have the payment (or a portion thereof) reversed, though it may take a couple of days for the funds to reach your account.

Happened last week when hubby made a purchase where he didn't check the amount he was authorising payment for and it turned out to be over by $13k. lol
