Broke Company iPhone. What to Do?

Hello,

So I was on a busy train and with a few bumps my work iphone accidently slipped out of my hands. The screen is very shattered (although still works). Since I technically broke the companys asset, do I have to get it fixed? I asked a few friends and they all said cheapest price is around $100+ .. sigh..
I'm only relatively new to the company so telling them I broke their phone might not be very good.. thoughts? cheap places in sydney to fix?

Before this incident though, I scratched the same phone and my manager (jokingly… or not?) told me to go to some random in chinatown to have it fixed in a cheap price. Is this implying that I should fix it?

Ask your company? They will have a policy on it, sometimes they will bear the cost of it.

    Talk to your Boss!
I had broken my companny iphone as well in the past, and I was given a replacement phone without any questions!

Check the company policy but it is a company asset and accidents happen its not like you did it on purpose. I had a similar situation happen when I was in a busy lift and someone in a hurry knocked it out of my hand on his way out. My company fixed it no questions asked.

Just be careful going to one of the shopping centre repair places as if the phone is under any sort of warranty then it's immediately void since someone else has repaired it. Usually apple themselves have a reasonable screen replacement service.

chinatown can do around 50$ (paddys market) depending on the phone model

Talk to your manager or whoever issued you with the phone. More than likely they will have a process in place.

DO NOT take it to some dodgy stand in a shopping centre or some bloke in Chinatown without getting permission ideally in writing to do so.

I'd also recommend against them unless your phone is a iPhone 5 with no warranty left or older.

Accidents happen your boss will understand that.

  • We have a very clumsy guy at work, after his third smashed screen they stopped paying for repair.

  • Every company I've worked for has paid for it - accidents happen (a lot to iphones it seems). Would suggest buying a decent cover for it next time because a second smash may not go down so well.
