Apple USB Lightning Cable from eBay Genuine?

I see some claiming to be genuine from $8 on ebay.

Question, are these genuine, or how can I confirm they are genuine (other than pay $29 from the Apple store)?

I'm looking to buy 2 to 3 cables.

I can buy 4 'genuine' ones on eBay for 1 from the apple store. Usually when things are too good to be true………

  • Highly doubt they are genuine if they are selling for that cheap

    • Yeah I agree.

I'm hoping they would come out of the same factory as the original as Apple outsource the manufacturing. Even a genuine one would cost less than a $1 or $2 to make.

  • Can anyone explain how the lightning cable lottery works?
Some fake cables throw an error but charge if you dismiss it, others charge for a couple of seconds then stop. Some seem to work sometimes, perhaps the charger/PC used makes a difference?
I understand I can buy an MFI certified cable, but I would much prefer to use cheap ones obviously.

    • As chenrenchun said, there's a chip in there so the Apple device recognises it's genuine.

The issue is, when you update the iOS software, the new iOS knows that it's a fake and stops working.

So really a fake cable can work just as well as a genuine cable- until you update iOS, so it's hard to tell if a cable is fake until you update iOS/

  • as I remember there's a chip inside the cable, I got the Anker from Amazon with the some spigen cases also floor mat hook for my corolla

  • $30 for a cable is ridiculous! I would just buy the ebay one (or three) and if anything goes awry just use paypal's dispute process.

    • Problem is it may stop working when you update your device.

  • You can buy them from Kmart, Target and Office works so why buy these from eBay. I bought one from kMart and it had a problem so they refunded. Too easy.

If you are into it, you can often get a choice of colours.

    • What price? Quality?

  • Just buy a few $1-$2 cables of eBay, use them for a few months. When they stop working, throw them out and buy some more.
