Need Qantas Status Credit before 30-June-2015

G'day.
Hubby needs 155 status credit by 30-June, and it has been challenging to find a quick way. The most difficult part is that it needs travelling before June, not just buying a ticket. We had travelled quite a lot last period but not this period. Also has over 60k QFF points but it wont help would it?
Considering going to FNQ but that only gives 30 points on economy, and 60 on business.
Thinking of going to Hawaii and Japan but only later in the year……
Been googling to see if we can buy it or swap but no luck.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

A few years back I didn't make the qualification threshold and they sent an email asking me if I could detail any travel plans I had for the coming year. Wrote back saying I intended to make multiple trips to Europe and the US in Business (none of it had been booked yet) and they allowed me to keep the status. Maybe they still do this?

  • A friend iof mine does what she labels a 'status run'. She will book several domestic flights in one day. Eg Syd to bris, bris to Mackay, Mackay to bris, bris to Syd. Not sure if that would work in your situation and not sure if the cost is worth it.

OP what status are you seeking to attain/retain?

I've previously been 10 status credits short and Qantas allowed me to retain silver status regardless. The following year was the same, but they didn't let me keep my status.

I definitely wasn't asked what my future travel plans were.

If you're 155 status credits off gold then it may be worth doing a few flights just to retain gold and keep lounge membership.

mel-ool return on a flexi fare gets you 80 status credits and cost about $500, maybe do 2 of those runs and youve got your credits….but is it worth it for you to spend 1k to keep this status? Im assuming he is either gold/plat or P1 status, to want to keep it so bad

If you're spending $1000 to get gold then it's cheaper to just buy Qantas club which is essentially gold as you get lounge access, priority check in etc.

The good thing about Qantas club is also that as soon as you get gold it simply goes on hold until you lose the gold status.

This is certainly an option, but I wouldn't call Q Club access 'essentially gold' - gold members enjoy other important privileges - such as oneworld partner lounge access and better chance at upgrades.

OP, you are correct that it is not possible to "buy or swap" status credits - they are totally non transferable. And your 60k points won't help you now that Qantas has closed the ASA loophole (whereby you used to be able to put your points towards fares and pick up points / SCs in return). 155 scs is going to be fairly pricey for you to pick up in Aus, and will likely require a couple of days of tedious flex economy travel unless you can find a decent haul of SCs with J. As another poster raised above, is it worth forking out <$1,000 for?

Look for double status credit offers too.

  • Thanks everyone for sharing. will ponder over this.

I did Mel to ool then during the day ool to Syd return for 100 in a day, used QF vouchers, and points etc (that I would earn on the flights) and I think up it was about $700 to get 100SC

    LAN SYD-AKL on J. $700ish. 160 SC IIRC.
