FUJI XEROX M225DW Multifunction Wireless Mono Laser Printer / Scanner / Copier - $94 @ MSY ($89.30 OW Price Beat)

610

It appears Fuji Xerox have dumped a lot of stock of this particular printer here - perhaps a model refresh is on the way?

Anyway all of a sudden every man and his dog is selling these, including the likes of Bing Lee ($129) who rarely sell much IT stuff…

I asked Bing Lee online what their best price was for the printer after showing them it was $94 at MSY and they came back with $129 (their standard marked price) - LOL - great deal!!!

$94 at MSY is a good deal - the best price around.

But you can do even better - $89.30 from Officeworks after you price match MSY.

Officeworks are asking $199 before the price match. Expect them to drop their price once their head office staff return to work on Monday…

http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/fuji-xerox-do…

The printer isn't bad - 26 pages per minute, wireless/LAN/USB connectivity, duplex printing (not sure if duplex scan/copy), AirPrint functionality, Mac/PC compatability.

Setup is a little painful as you really need to set it up while connected to your PC/Mac via USB - not via wireless. Once setup is complete she runs like a dream..

Third party toner is cheap too…

Sure there are better printers around, but like Beach Road in Pattaya, bang for buck this is tough to beat…

    Price in title please.

people here have high expectations now

    duplexing

    • This offers duplex printing (and scanning I think) out of the box…

      • I couldn't see duplex copying/scanning on their website

        http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/en/Products/multifunctio…

        • +2

Pretty sure it is 2 sided copying from this:

          http://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/processDriverForm.do?ctry…

and 2 sided scanning from this:

          http://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/processDriverForm.do?ctry…

Note you have to use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) to automatically copy/scan both sides, though there is also a manual method if your subject won't fit the ADF…

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:
Unfortunately doesn't look like it is. Not sure from your links what you were looking at, but looking at the FAQ for "How To Scan to E-mail Attachment" it appears only model DocuPrint M265z offers duplex, not this one.

          http://www.support.xerox.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?St=429,E=0000000005327970891,K=6163,Sxi=11,Case=obj(1811)

          Still good deal, quite tempted.

        • +3

          @dzam72:
It's full duplex, bought one recently. (The D in the product name stands for duplex)

        • @flux:
sorry which one did you buy? and it can scan auto duplex as well (scan both sides of a page automatically to email)?
          thanks

        • @mrtin: No I don't think it does duplex scanning, it's duplex printing (M225DW)

        • @flux:
          thank you for clarifying

        • @flux: I should have been clearer - yes duplex printing but strangely not duplex scanning, which is a shame.

  • whAT. is this the same with aldi deal few months ago?
if so, anyone own this printer and can solve the problem where wireless isnt connected anymore after the printer goes into sleep mode?
i put the printer on second floor but the signal should be strong enough, my phone pc and tablets are stayed connected - but not this printer.

    • I am not having that problem. Maybe you should return yours to Aldi?

      • hmm is yours sit next to the modem/router?
the wireless is working, it just kind of disconnected after a while, i need to re-setting then restart again.

        • +1

Not next to it, but the signal strength is good.

It wouldn't detect it at all trying to set it up without being connected via USB.

Once I connected via USB and ran through the setup once, including configuring the wireless, it has been faultless since.

    • edit:. the aldi one is 255z, slightly different model

      • +1

The aldi one has adf while this does not. However wireless is better in this I think because it's wireless n compared to the wireless g in the aldi model.

        • +2

Yes it does. From the specs on OW website:
"Scan your documents automatically with a 35 page automatic document feeder."

You can see the ADF in the picture at top.

        • @dzam72:
You're right, my bad. Feel bad for buying the aldi printer a while back :-(

  • sub $20 for 2.5k prints

    not too bad

  • +2

Apparently I can be wrong twice in a row lol goes to get a coffee

(Sorry OP, model is the M225DW, just shows differently on MSY, and that model code is same as an HP product!)

  • I've always marvelled at how, if you buy a "printer only"— ink or laser, they're cheap. But, drop a scanner on it & the ink version stays cheap, the laser version triples in price (at least). Wonder why?

Good deal for a laser printer/scanner- even moreso if it handles generic toner.

    • Agreed. There has also historically been a big price premium for a wireless and/or network printer versus just a plain USB printer…

      • but still, these things are massively cheap

i mean i always buy MFDs instead of printers as i occasionally need to fax or scan or photocopy so a flat out printer, even if its $29 one, is wasting my space

        • These don't do fax. "Multi-function" really means 2-function these days.

        • @manic: 3 functions

          PRINT
          COPY
          SCAN

        • -4

          @GreatWhiteHunter:

          the 'copy' is redundant .

        • +3

@manic: not if it copies without being connected to a computer

        • -1

          @Jackson:
So have you ever seen a scanner/printer that doesn't copy? No. So stating it is redundant.

        • @manic: yes actually, it was standard back in the day for the first few runs of MFCs directed at the home. Anyone who was around then and ever used one would remember it clearly because they were such a PITA to use, and not to mention slow.

BTW is didn't down vote u

        • @manic:

It may be redundant to say it (I don't think it is though) but that doesn't mean it shouldn't still rate as one of its functions.

        • @Jackson:
OK, ta. I do remember using separate scanner and printer to copy, so I feel the pain.

  • Good deal, thanks op. I hope ofw drop their prices.

  • MSY Page now saying out of stock, next closet price seem to be $100.97 according to Staticice

  • For a split second I thought I saw $9 again :)

    Anyone remember that frenzy lol

    • +1

      Still the spare

  • ADF at top. Double side scan?

  • Hopefully these are still the same price by the time I get my car back on the road so I can actually pick one up.

  • The other thing to look out for is the cost of replacement toner. Hope there are cheap compatible toners widely available.

  • I went to OW and asked them to price match but after a while they refused by saying that resolution and toner are not same. Bought one from MSY, when reached home saw that they have given me DPM255z, is it any beteer? Please advise ……

    • I has wrong reply before.
      so I write here again.

I used M255z, I am sure that M255z cannot do duplex scanning.
I do not know about M255DW, It this model can, you are better to ask change.

This model doesn't include duplex scanning. Excerpt from brochure

    The DocuPrint M265 z also features a
    Duplex Automatic Document Feeder (DADF)
    supporting duplex scanning and copying,
    delivering efficiency and productivity gains
    to any workspace.

    • I used M255z, I am sure that M255z cannot do duplex scanning.

    • . nvm

  • Thanks mate

  • Anyone else getting a weird error/redirect with the OfficeWorks webpage?

  • Officeworks may not price match this item as in MSY it says 'THIS PRODUCT IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK'.

  • My problem with Fuji printers is the lack of linux support.
I need to stick with HP, unless someone can show me another way.

    • I have been using a Brother laser printer with Linux for the past 4 years without a problem.

      • Never had a brother printer to know.

    • I have an m205b and a bit of digging online said it worked with Linux, and however I haven't set it up yet….

      • Yea…may be with a lot of effort it can be done. I gave my p206b a go sometime ago and was still not working. Gave up since.

      • +1

I just tried to set up my Fuji Xerox M205b, and had success! I am using Puppy Linux 5.71, but this should work for any Linux version that has CUPS as the printing system.

After reading a few forum posts, I found that the driver for a different printer can be used. I downloaded the .deb file for the Xerox Workcentre 3045b from here:
        http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-3045/downloa…

The .deb file can be opened with Xarchive. Extract only the file Xerox-Workcentre-3045B.ppd.gz

Now start up a shell, go to the directory containing the file you just extracted. Type "gunzip Xerox-Workcentre-3045B.ppd.gz". Now you will have the same file , but without the ".gz" on the end. This ppd file is the file you need.

Now start a web browser, and go to:
        http://localhost:631/
This is the CUPS control webpage. There may be a menu item in your version of Linux that brings up this page, rather than typing the url.

Under the administration tab, select "Add printer". Your printer should be in the list of local printers, click the button beside it, and then click "Continue". Click "Continue" again on the next page.

Now you should have the option "Or Provide a PPD File:" and a "Browse" button. Click on Browse, and go to the directory where your PPD file is stored. Select the file and click "Open". Now you are back on the previous webpage - click "Add Printer". You will be prompted to set the default options - probably only the paper size.

Now click on the "Printers" tab, and on your printer. Under the "Administration" pull-down, click on "Set as server default".

Now click on the "Printers" tab again, and on your printer. Under the "Maintenance" pull-down, click on "Print Test Page".

        Done!

Note: I'm not hugely knowlegeable about Linux, so the above is not guaranteed to work for your system.

        • Thanks for the effort mate, just out of curiosity how do you find the print from us stick? I haven't come across a file yet that works, they show up on the little screen but says that every file is corrupt, of course they open fine with a pc

        • @Jackson:
I once got it to work with a PDF file, but never since. I tried creating PDFs with the Linux utility ps2pdf, with varying PDF compatibility levels, and still I couldn't get it to work. I haven't tried printing photos though, that might work.

  • Good luck getting one. Not much stock around, only a few stores in SA.

  • Any good

  • Bing Lee had the M215B Mono M/F advertised for $54 but I think it is run out so may be hard to find?

Any deals like this for a wireless multi-function colour printer/scanner/copier? Pls share.. cheers!

  • Where can we get cheap toners?
    Thanks in advance

    • For a single toner:
      http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=CT201918&sp…

For the "twin pack" of toner:
      http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=CT201919&sp…

Note:staticice only lists computer stores and places like OfficeWorks. Ebay will probably be cheaper.

      • Besides one of the links ($16) seems like a pretty pricy toner

        • is $50 for a toner really that exp? thats the cost of a (retail) ink cartridge and the toner prints like 10x more pages

        • @alebox:
It would probably be more like 2x not 10x for full vs initial toner. But $50 for generic and $80 for the full (which is approaching the cost of the printer) seems a bit steep.

      • This is the toner for M255z, not for M225DW.

These two machines use different toners.
For M225DW,apart from genuine toner there only is a refill option you can find on ebay.

  • Thanks to the poster I just got one price matched at Officeworks.

  • Any bargain for a color laser printer for home use?

  • Got all excited and got one on hold at Chatswood OW, then realized that it was mono and I had no use for it anyway.

  • +1

    the M255z is $139 today @ MSY

    • +1

      What's better about the M255z?

Edit: For anyone who is interested:

      http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/en/Products/CompareProdu…

I reckon it is worth the extra $40. I'll order one.

      • It only has fax and better cross platform support. Other than that, it has wireless G which screws up your wireless N network. Honestly, I would recommend going with a Brother laser even though it costs more. The software is miles ahead and the controls are much better.

Or the MSY one since that is wireless N and should be a bit better theoretically.

        • +2

          better cross platform support.

Looks like that is because the cheaper model is "host based". I'll avoid.

        • @manic:

mind if I ask how do you determine whether it's host based or not? is it because there's a GDI driver available?

edit: nevermind it's in the specs sheet :P

        • @CVonV:
From the above link from liquid metal:

Print Language or PDL (Page Description Language) PCL6, Host-Based

And the lower memory spec, and lack of XP or Linux support. Or did I misinterpret that?

        • @manic:

yeah i was thinking cos of the memory too.. but yeah you're right.. it's also stated in the specs section of the brochure

        • You will find the Xerox and Brother printer drivers in Windows 8.1 are the same. Control Centre 4…

        • +2

          @fryandlaurie:

Wireless G devices connected to a N network doesn't slow it down in general. Only when the G device is actively transmitting the network becomes slightly slower. But how often do you print? It only is active for a couple of seconds. Different story if you have a tablet or an old notebook with wireless G.

I only print maybe every couple of weeks something, or even months. Copying from time to time so $50 more for no real benefit, I don't know.

      • I added a table to the OP to highlight some more differences that aren't apparent in that comparison

  • I purchased this last night at Oxley officeworks. I'm getting issues printing from IOS and Android devices.

Has anyone tried printing from a mobile device? I'm having issues where the printer is not showing up in Airprint and when I try to print from their Fuji Xerox app, I get an error saying: "Unsupported PDF data for Direct Print:1000". The same file prints fine over wireless from a laptop. The scan function works fine tho over mobile.

  • I can't find any place that sells cheap toner?

    • ebay dude.. always

      cheapest aussie delivered = $16.50 (0.66c/page) or $23 twin pack (0.46c/page)
      cheapest overseas (china) delivered = $9.99 (0.4c/page) or $18.99 twin pack (0.38c/page)

      • Isn't that only for DPM255z?

        • yeah just realised.. will edit mate

        • @CVonV: did you get one too?

        • +1

          @djEthen:

          i have the M255z thankfully

anyways yeah there's no generic toner on ebay for the M225z for some reason hmm.. and there seems to be only 1 store that sells refill bottles (which I don't particularly like) —> $32.90 (1.27c/page) delivered from NSW

        • +2

@CVonV: *$32.90, looks like i should cancel my order from OW

        • +1

          @djEthen:

cheers, missed the $10 delivery fee too

yeah not as cost effective to run compared to the M255z unfortunately

    • +1

      google 'CT202330 refill'
you can find some websites sell 2xtoner refill for $30+10 postage.

      It is about 0.7c/page

      • Thabks for that, looks airline now

  • Has anyone managed to find the drivers for the scanner on Mac OS X? Doesn't seem to be any available ..

  • It seems Officeworks have lowered their standard price to $129 for this printer.

MSY have increased their price to $104.

I'll mark the deal as closed…
