Jipped by Cashrewards + Booking.com

Hi All,

When the $15 cash back deal for Booking.com was on cashrewards.com

I made a 5 booking for 5 nights instead of 1 booking for 5 nights. (e.g. 26-27 Oct then, 29-31 Oct).

Terms and Condition of Booking.com did not state anything against this.

They have now decide to dishonor this deal.

Has anyone have similar experience?

I'm thinking to take it to ACCC.

cheers.

Did you clear cookies etc for each booking, and clicked through Cashrewards each time?

I get that you were trying to score $75 instead of $15, but then you have to explain to the hotel that the booking is a consecutive one and you dont want to checkout each morning!

    • In fact I stayed at the same room. I told them at the reception before I checked-in.

  • Sort of related: I made a booking on Booking.com + Cash Rewards back in January and my rewards is still pending. Does it matter if I did not pay online and paid in person instead? I don't remember being offered the option to pay online.

    • Not sure.

    • did you pay the amount that was quoted to you at the time of the booking.. or whatever the hotel charges you at the end?

      • Yea I did at the hotel.

  • By the way, the ethnic slur in the title is spelled Gyped, because it is implying Romani people will dishonour a deal (Gypsy).
But I guess you didn't mean to make a racist comment, but it is one, like saying a Jewish person is overly parsimonious or an African American is a criminal. All obviously things I don't think people on this site would believe or want to accidentally imply. It would be a good idea to use a different expression next time, e.g. The Classic Aussie "ripped off".

    • parsimonious

I love it when people teach me new words. <3 thnx mskeggs.

Oh hell, I talk like this all the time. Please tell me it is not going over people's heads? Am I talking to myself? Wait a minute, I do that all the time too 😐

      Gypped*

      I hope that wasn't a racist comment.

      • You would assume that the OP is ignorant of the etymology as they didn't spell it like Gypsy.

I was just correcting your spelling

I only learned of it recently. For all my life I've been saying "Jibbed"

        • @psionix:
I wonder if the neg votes on my original comment are from racists who hate travellers or people that don't like posts about English on a bargain site? Curious.

  • Did you enjoy your stay? I like the booking.com model where you need not pay in advance.

  • please keep us updated with this

interestingly enough they have stated you cannot do this in their terms now

Rewards may only payable ONCE per hotel per booking period. (e.g.: If you book more than one consecutive night at the same hotel, you may only receive ONE reward payment.

    • also, i'm assuming that this was from back then?

  • I have 11 bookings with $15 cash back pending from an overseas trip in early January. The bookings were all for different hotels. I emailed cash rewards asking why they hadn't been processed and this is the response that I got:

    Thanks for your email.

We received a response from booking.com advising us that they have dishonoured or will be dishonouring bookings made from the same IP address in which multiple bookings were made at the same time at the same hotel.

They have told us that it is not 'normal behaviour’ to book multiple nights at the same hotel as individual bookings and subsequently they will not be paying commissions on these bookings.

Whilst we are still making every effort to resolve this with booking.com we are unable at this time to credit your rewards account as per your request. If you could supply us with your Booking.com confirmation emails this would allow us to speed the process up with Booking.com

As with all cashback sites worldwide, Cash Rewards terms and conditions disclose that we are not responsible for paying cashback to our members if we do not receive commissions from third party's.

Please be assured we are seeking to follow this up and reach a resolution as soon as possible.

    • Yes, that's the same email I got from them. You should definitely be entitled to the cash-back if you booked different hotels.

I made bookings from different IP addresses.

  • Scam, I booked through difference hotels in different cities. They initially only approved one with pending status, and rejected it 6 months later.

  • After a bit of back and forth with the Cash Rewards customer service team they ended up approving all of the transactions after I showed them a credit card statement with the payments for the hotels (seeing as I didn't keep receipts).

  • I have over $500 in Cashrewards.com.au and they basically refuse to pay it, even though I 100% followed all the rules, T&C.

I'm traveling for the past 6 months so I've been using the Booking.com cash reward VERY often. Got paid only for 4 bookings.

Sure, they later introduced this rule "Bookings with same user agent, IP and email can make no more than 5 x bookings within 1 month. **If this limitation is exceeded, all rewards (included for the first 5 bookings) will be canceled and considered as invalid"

But am I supposed to see into the future? Considering it takes them 3 months to process…. I'm pissed off, because often it would be cheaper to just book directly in person or use Agoda

    • Yea, I hear you. I would've gotten a better deal with expedia myself.

We need a legal advice. =(
