Can Anyone Recommend a Good Wi-Fi Card/USB Dongle for desktop PC?

The TP link TL-WN851ND that i have seems to have stopped working after i moved house, it was only like $20 so i cant be bothered with warranty and paying for postage so rather just buy a new one.

any recommendations?
I got NBN connected today if that matters at all idk.

cheers

This adapter by the way, was the one I bought, and it came with antennas.

    • Another cheap alternative would be this - http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/261495370521

Been using it on my desktop for 1.5 years, but Scrimshaw knows better :)

      • I have that Bargainaus and on my 12/1 download speed i seem to only get about 7/8 down when my phone and tablet and ps4 all get over 10 down.

only thing i was worried about scrims idea was the adapter itself how good are they and does a bad quality make download speeds terrible?

        • I noted with mine

          • There are no electrical components on the adapter itself, it really is just an adapter — a piece of printed silicon with a socket to mount the NIC and the three antennas did seem to be of pretty sturdy make. So if anything, your wireless performance will largely depend on the NIC you're using. There's not much to the adapter itself, and very little points of failure. At least, not from my perspective.

          • I stuck in a Intel Centrino 6300 Ultimate N in mine which was harvested from an old Dell lappy and it seems to perform just as well in it's original machine. The throughput was pretty much the same. It does better than my old TP-Link…

          • My only gripe with it is that it came with no screws and it looks like it requires a certain kind of standoff with a nut on the bottom to the properly mount a half mini NIC card. I didn't have any of the sort left in my toolbox. So if you slot the NIC card into the adapter, you'll find that it sticks upwards, but all I did was wrap a cable tie around the NIC itself and that did the trick.

        • @scrimshaw: of you have me interested.
Any sellers for the adapter within au I hate the wait for overseas things. It's ok if it's a few dollars more.

  • Netgear A6200 WIFI dongle. The best for NBN. Have been using since putting NBN at my place. Around $60.

  • Personally if I had NBN I wouldn't go choking the speed down by using wireless. I suggest wiring directly to the router especially if your on one of the top speed tiers. Wireless will only slow you down.

    • id like to but it's no where near my desktop pc.

        Doesn't need to be?

Quality 5E or higher ethernet cable will work reliably up to about 100 metres at gigabit speeds.

Even if you're renting you could run temporary cables along skirting boards or the like. Otherwise wire it upyourself

Even though wireless AC now gets close the Gigabit speed, it only does so over 5 metres or less, then it quickly degrades epscially with walls, mirrors, fish tanks etc. Add to the fact the wireless spectrum is finite, and add a few more devices (especially non AC ones) and the signal quickly becomes pretty trash to run HD video over. They all share the same wireless space.

Really try to go wired first if you can mate. Yes it's initially more work but SSSSOOOO worth it.
