Help Required in Resolving The Issue with iiNet

Hello Friends,

I am moving house this month end and i am currently using iinet naked dsl and paying $69.90 a month. (250gb no peak hours restrictions or anything)

The new place I am moving into does not have the naked dsl nor does iinet has its own infrastructure. They would be using the Telstra infra and will be providing me an ADSL2 connection which is basically their offset plans (http://www.iinet.net.au/internet/broadband/adsl/).

With this new service I end up paying higher month on month fees of 20$ and reduced data limits.

I am on a 24 month contract of which 12 months are over. Honestly I never had issues with iinet so far. Contract breakage fee is 144$.

I am moving from 3146 postcode to 3086 postcode.

Can someone suggest how and what do i do?

Any other service provider you guys recommend?

Thanks

  • has anyone used or have reviews about http://www.everynet.com.au/ or esc.net.au or spintel

What other service providers in that area having good speeds, about 200gb data limit or higher and around the same price range of 69$ a month?

    Thanks

  • Do the sums and work out whether you're better off breaking contract and connecting through Belong ($80/month 250gb)..
Might also be worth investigating whether you can get internet through Telstra (Foxtel) Cable.. you'll pay a bit more, but get much better speeds/service.

  • +1

Does anyone have DSLAMs serving the new address? If not, then Telstra or Telstra resellers are the only option (or Foxtel/bigpond if there is cable). Competitive ADSL coverage is so common in metro areas it is easy to forget that where there is no competition, the prices go up.
If it is Telstra only, all the ISPs will face the same cost base, so if you get a cheaper price it will because they cut costs elsewhere or accept a lower profit.

  • Yep, that's the problem with Telstra's infrastructure. This is not iiNet's fault.

I also have to pay more for less, because Telstra own the infrastructure (it's a ADSL1 RIM connected to an ADSL2+ exchange). If there was no RIM, it would be cheaper, faster and with more quota. Possibly no additional ports though! (1km from RIM, 3km from exchange)

  • Same situation as you, sub exchange is down the street though, connecting close to theoretical max for adsl2 and paying for the speed pack, all through iinet. Sure, I look at the standard prices and whimper a little, but then I see my download speeds and I dont mind so much!
