The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt (Pre-Order) GOG. $15.79 USD. Requires HOLA/VPN

1650

There's a few ways to get The Witcher 3 cheaper than the current A$80 asking price but this is the cheapest I've found so far.

Using Chrome as your browser (may work with others) do the following:

  1. Open Chrome and clear all cookies/history.
  2. Activate HOLA/VPN and choose your location as Ukraine - In HOLA open www.gog.com and select to browse from Ukraine.
  3. Add Witcher 3 to your cart and choose to checkout from the cart icon.
  4. You will need to log in to your GOG account at this point - you might want to change your GOG password after this is all completed.
  5. Select payment method - I used paypal.
  6. You will be taken to the payments or paypal page - at this point DISABLE HOLA/VPN as you don't want your payment details going through a public VPN.
  7. Pay in full and you will be taken back to GOG to see your order completion and ref number.
  8. Log out of GOG

For me $15.79 USD came to A$20.70 - It should be obvious that you need an existing GOG account to complete this order.

GOG are part of the same company that developed Witcher 3 so you are dealing with the publisher directly. This game will be released on the 19th of May.

Other methods and prices:

Nuuvem $30 USD - requires VPN
DLgamer $41.99 USD
GMG - cheaper offer now withdrawn due to sh*tfight with the publisher

As always, with using a VPN to get around Aussie Tax prices on games, you run a very small risk that the site may refund your purchase or lock your account. It is very rare but has been know to happen with other game purchases (nuuvem GTA V?)

      • Was having similar experience. I use chrome. Try to switch on hola and select Ukraine. Go to browser's address bar (not hola address bar) and enter something like speedtest.net which can show your location. If it says some ukraine location then the next thing you can do is clear the browsers history (tick on everything). After that go to www.gog.com it should display the right price.

  • Incredible price!!!

  • +2

ugh finally got it to work!! :D

    • What'd you do to get it to work?

  • Witcher 3 + Expansion Pass $A40 which is pretty cheap Thanks guys!!!

  • -3

Thanks! Got Witcher 3 and Expansion Pass.

If they treat me equally like a US customer I would pay full price. Charge me the Australia Tax = no deal.

    • +1

It's similar price Aus/US. The only cheaper one is Ukraine. CDProjekt treat you well.

    • +10

Would you also like to be treated like an American for your wages and conditions? Or someone in the Ukraine? I'd hazard a guess and say your hourly rate is probably a fair bit more than the average consumer in the Ukraine.

I completely agree that we do get 'taxed' too much just because it's Australia. However in this instance the developers are at least trying to even it out between AU and the US price, giving back store credit and providing loyalty discount for owners of 1 and 2, and I think that is an attitude to customers worth supporting. Compare that to many publishers… Taking this approach is not rewarding that behaviour, rather taking advantage of the CDPR's attitude towards DRM and regional pricing and so on.

I don't think we should expect to live and work under Australian wages and conditions (which are amongst the best in the world) and yet only pay the Ukrainian price for goods - that's having it both ways. This price is too cheap for an unreleased game of this size and hopefully quality. I don't think we should be expecting to pay so little for someone else's work. I paid the GOG AU price and don't mind doing so - I get paid reasonably for what I do, and I think CDPR deserve the same. May be something worth thinking about…

      • +2

I wasnt even going to buy this game at release, however couldn't resist at this price. So thats $15.79USD CDPR would not have got otherwise.

  • Thanks OP worked great!

  • I bought it and got a paypal confirmation in my email, but didn't get any confirmation from GOG :S

  • Worked great. The Witcher 3 and expansion pass for $39 - $75 cheaper than Steam

  • Hell of a deal.

  • awesome deal! hopefully doesn't get cancelled.

  • Thanks OP. Purchased. Great deal.

  • will it work on Mac? or PC only?

    • The game is graphics heavy, doubt a mac could run it.

  • Is it region restricted to Ru/Cis countries?

  • Still works as of 1am this morning.

  • Not working for me. I can get the Ukraine price to show up, but at the checkout screen after I select either Paypal or Credit Card and then click checkout again, it updates the price to the US price.

    • +1

When did you disable HOLA? you do it when you reach the paypal log-in screen (don't aleady be logged in to paypal). Plus you must only log into gog (and browse) after you have selected the correct proxy. Hope this helps!

      • When I add to cart, it adds at the $15 fine. However, once I choose paypal and click "Pay for your Order now", it auto-updates the price from $15 to $50 and doesn't go straight to paypal. If I press on the green "Pay for your order now" button again with the new updated price, I then get to the paypal login screen, but the price is the new price - $50, rather than the $15.

I've tried to disable HOLA both just before, and not at all, and either way GOG auto-updates the prices before the Paypal login screen can be accessed.

        • Cleared all your cookies and history? Also some have had luck trying a different browser (fresh install).

        • +1

I had exactly the same issue.

Solution was to use a different VPN like CyberGhost.

        • @Gravox:

Thanks mate Cyberghost VPN worked perfectly

  • worth saying that pillars of eternity was same price (US $15) using the same method above on GOG

  • -7

$53USD signed in with a Russian VPN

    • Strange. Used a Russian VPN as well. 21 USD.

      Switched to Hola instead.

Either way, OP's method worked for the cheap price.

      Thanks OP!

  • +1 from me pal =)

  • -2

When do we get the CD Key? is it Steam?

    • not meaning to be rude, but how many times does it mention GOG. I even posted yesterday for some other person who asked is it a Steam key.

  • Did you guys get a confirmation email after you purchased it?

    • I did, but it doesn't say how to activate it?

      Check your junk mail

      • When the game is released login to Gog and under your account your game will be there to download.

        • Strange… I've purchased it and got Paypal confirmation, but no confirmation from GOG. When I check my account purchases it isn't there either :s

        • @romants: yeah that's weird

        • @romants:

Hmm check your GOG profile to ensure that the email is correct there and that you haven't unsubscribed to emails or anything? All I can think of at the moment.

  • Awesome deal! I'm going to wait though. By the time I actually finish all my other steam /gog games found via OzB this will be like $2.99!

  • I'll add that while the website states that they don't provide gifts, I contacted them through Support and had my copy of the game converted to a gift key.

  • What do you mean download from GOG, download an ISO? what about the CDKey?

    • what about the CDKey?

GoG provides their own download service. You don't get a CD key for Steam or anything. It's DRM free.

      • So how do I get updates for the game?

        • Any update will be offered as either a patch installer or as new full installer. The patch will upgrade the last full installation to the current patch level. Given the size of Banished (~100MB), it shouldn't be any real issue to update even if you have to go for a new full install. That said, it depends on the developer and how much the updates change the files of the game.

  • Well my brother didn't wait for the rest of the instructions I was telling him over the room and he went ahead and put in his credit card details through a public vpn. Should there be any concern? Cancel the card?

    • IMO cancel it my origin account got hack when i did this method buying titanfall on mexico website.
the hacker deleted all my friend list on my account then try to change my password lucky i got notification on my email and stop it from there.

    • I might also add that since the game is drm-free you don't need to buy the game twice. (just a thought, I may be wrong but its a nice way to support the devs if you don't mind spending extra)

  • bought and got X Wing Alliance as well :P

  • You Sir OP are awesome.

    Thank you Long time

  • EDIT: Finally loaded..

Managed to add to cart, Clicking checkout seems to be stuck loading? anyone else having issues?

    • Loading the website and adding the item (with the cheap price) was not an issue with me (using Hola android app; originating country is Ukraine) but i was unable to pay via paypal. i tried this multiple times but kept getting the same error from Paypal (which was unable to pay this customer or something like that).
To avoid missing out on this deal, i just decided to pay with my CC. This went through without a hitch. Got my GOG confirmation email right away too.

      Thanks OP!

  • Worked fine using private VPN in Kiev.

Ignore the notice/warning about gifting Witcher 3, as it only applies to people buying the game many times and gifting it to people, presumably for money.

  • +1

must be their way of boosting preorder figures

CD Projekt thanks you ozbargainers on job well done :D

Preload is now available on GOG.

    Download size 21.95 GB.

    English language version.

Just finished the download and the speed using the GOG downloader was good.

  • Gone up to $21 USD - Still a massive bargain.

  • Doesn't work for me? I'm getting $53.99 on Ukraine :/

    • Clean out your history and try again, I had this issue.

      • Still no good for me :( Are you using chrome?

        • Also clear cookies and ensure that Ukraine is the selected HOLA location befor going to GOG.

        • Ahh, got it to work using firefox rather than chrome.

I mistakenly read the instructions as having to use chrome -.-

  • Lol. My average download speed from GOG is 12.4MB/s

  • In the confirmation email I also received a free key for "Neverwinter Nights Diamond"

  • -1

Any thoughts on the morality of this?

I want to support this company as they are a decent bunch and the discount is aimed at those people whose income is a lot less than mine. Still… that is a very large price difference.

    • +1

They already had over a million pre-orders a few months ago, they are going to be fine :-)

      • I did it, I feel dirty… How can I ever complain about politicians taking short cuts now?

  • Cheers mate, bought it with the expansion pass for <$50AUD… Not to wait for the unlimited data weekend and off I go to preload =)

btw, I noticed the USD price for the pre-order is now $21.19. Might be that I screwed up something but still a good price for a brand new game IMO.

  • If anyone is having trouble getting the price to change using Hola VPN. I suggest double teaming gog.com with two VPN's. I finally got it to work after I used cyberghost vpn (set to netherlands server) in conjunction with the browser based Hola VPN (set to Ukraine server), in mozilla firefox.

The problem I was having before was that just using the hola vpn would show the reduced price for a fraction of a second and then just revert back to the $81 AUD amount for some odd reason.

  • Ended up paying $24.52 as the price went up ($21 US or something). Great deal nonetheless. Thanks OP.

  • Guys you have to enter the gog.com address into the hola addon not into your browser directly.

  • Nice Thanks, mine came in at $21 US as well, but still great price for those of us not able to spend $80 on it.
Now I guess i need to save up for a new GFX card :P

    • where you would probably end up getting a free copy of Witcher 3 bundled with it - so wasted money! :)

      • Probably going AMD, not sure if they have Witcher 3 deals, but in the event of it happening I can always sell that version to a friend etc.

  • -3

I just got a cheap email code for GOG for $27 on eBay, no VPN bs required.

    • +4

VPN bs? The method was extremely straightforward and only took 2 minutes. After using the vpn once, the region for the website has been locked to Ukraine so now even without the using Hola, it still shows Ukrainian prices (not that I have bought anything else from the store - metro LL looks great though)!

  • Price appears to have hiked to $27.49

    • nvm, still good at $21 usd.

  • Was about to jump on this, but the downgrade between Trailers and Gameplay footage is just too much.

    • How do you mean?

Astronomical difference in overall quality, even when comparing old trailers to new trailers.

        • because the devs found out that the power of the current gen consoles wasn't as high as they were initially lead to believe, so they then had to scale back to scale dev to the lower common denominator. My money is the detail will all be added back to the PC version when Windows 10 and DirectX 12 are officially released, as you won't have the GPU bottleneck that is DirectX 11.

        • @gizmomelb:
Oh dear, i surely hope so, i know my rig can take whatever they throw at it. GTA V is absolutely stunning on PC in relation to all console versions so hopefully they'll follow suit.

        • I'm buying it for its story, love the series. Disappointed that consoles are still messing with the PC games.

  • Nice bargain!though i got it for 21usd, but still nice bargain!

I am wondering, what should i do after i have paid it?

since this is the first time i buy a game online, what should i do to play this game?

  • HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!! I have tried so many times and this donst seem to be working for me at all =/

I tried to use cyberghost with hola and it just doesnt allow me to open a website cause it says net is down and not working when i turn cyberghost it works but hola donst and it comes to A80 dollars, help i dont understand this .

    • Follow the instructions including clearing browser and cookies. Try a different browser also.

The address for gog needs to be typed into HOLA not into your address bar.

      • +1

I did alllllllllll of that ,

        The connection has timed out

The server at gog.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

        • OK just remember we're not IT Tech Support, if you've followed the instructions and still not getting through just buy the game at full price. It's not sin to buy a game at full price and save this board a major amount of "pleeeaaaseee help!!!" crap.

        • @frostman:

I followed the instructions clearly, NO NEED TO BE RUDE. I FIXED the problem myself. it was just the software bugging out.

  • Another option is to buy a nvidia key from someone selling theirs. I sold mine for $25usd on reddit, theyre now going for about $20usd.

  • Might be a delay with Gog. Noticed this on their website.

Gifting of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt temporarily unavailable (fix in progress)
Due to a very large number of fraudulent transactions coming in, we have had to disable the gifting option for three items: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Expansion Pass, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game + Expansion Pass.
We are working to clarify the problem and prevent further fraudulent transactions from being made.
We will make gifting possible once more as soon as this issue is resolved.

I wouldn't recommend using Hola to do this. When you install the service your computer becomes what is known as an exit node, which essentially allows other people using Hola to use your IP address without your permission. While the chance that somebody might use your IP for something nefarious (CP distribution, illegal content, etc) is very unlikely, it still exists. If you must act upon this supposed "deal", I would suggest using an actual VPN service.

With that said, it's silly to buy the game through this method because CD PROJEKT wouldn't consider these purchases to be legitimate. CD PROJEKT would view this as being no different from pirating games - except for the fact that you're even worse than the pirates in terms of morals. The pirates don't hurt anyone, whereas everyone who has purchased this "deal" is putting more pressure onto CD PROJEKT to ditch regional pricing for countries where people cannot afford western game prices.

Now watch the eventual down-votes on this comment from people who want to trick themselves into a "feel good" feeling because they want to convince themselves they legitimately purchased the product. I have more respect for pirates than I do with these people.

    • Hi, you need to read a bit more about the Hola extension. It's a common thing on reddit or here to jump to 'it makes you an exit node' but the reality is that only the VPN app uses you as a peer in their network. The chrome extension is fine. I challenge you to find any evidence other than this single reddit post which everyone references as gospel https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/1qnphj/psa_if_your…

  • So i can't seem to get it to work and i realised why but i cant fix it. For some reason HOLA keeps loading it from an American VPN initially, even if i click Ukraine, i have to change it again through the chrome app again before it works and by then the GOG cookie is in. Even if i set it through the app it still goes to US first.

I tried it constantly with speedtest.net as someone suggested a couple posts down. How did everyone override this issue?

    • Same thing happened to me.

i switched to Pure VPN, a paid VPN service.

      it works now.

  • It can be played now for those unaware :)

  • Still works as of this morning, via a fresh install of firefox. Trick is to use the search bar that is built into the hola plugin (and is actually rather hidden in the hola UI…), and not any other method. Also when you turn hola on, make sure you're not already sitting at some URL, have a blank page open instead.

Worth noting that the pre-release price is gone, so it's now ~$21 or something, rather than the ~$15. Though I don't know if that is still affected by owning W1 and W2 or not.
