iPhone 4S Wi-Fi Won't Connect to Network - Any Solutions ?

My son's Iphone 4S doesn't detects the wifi networks.

He has tried restoring , resetting the phone , reset router and went to Apple store . They restored the phone but still no wifi. Told him they could replace it for $275. After multiple attempts to do everything suggested on all possible sites across internet, it still fails to locate wifi networks.
Even tried the freezer trick but not working .

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • You actually put your phone into the freezer? This may potentially kill the electronics onboard due to condensation forming as the temperature shifts from cool to warm. In either case, this sounds like a hardware fault which is not serviceable by the user. The Wifi radio probably needs to be replaced.

Note: If your phone is physically damaged, they most likely won't swap your phone for free.

  • I had the same problem. 4s. I tried all the tricks. Freezer, resetting with wifi off etc. Wanted to get a new phone (I hate Apple), but the wifi is now working again… Good luck!

  • Lol @ Freezer

Stop and think just for 1 second. How will freezing your phone possibly permanently fix it? What law of physics/ witchcraft are you trying to summon?

Now focus on what might be problem.

  • Has the phone been jailbroken? The radio may be corrupt

I had a similar issue with a friends 4S few months back. Initially it wouldn't detect any wifi network and after resetting the phone via iTunes, the Wifi just completely gave up and the option was greyed out. After some research I found a few YouTube videos that demonstrate applying the heat of a hair dryer around the top of the phone's screen until it displays a temperature warning seems to have fixed the issue. I tried the same method and when it displayed the temperature warning, I shut the phone down (be careful when using the phone during this period as it'll be pretty hot!). Half an hour later I turned the phone back on and surprisingly the wifi started working. I even decided to take the risk of resetting the phone again and Wifi was still working.

I'm not too sure what the exact issue is but apparently what I've learned is when the iPhone goes into high temperature mode, it seems to reset all the onboard chips including the Wifi. Although a few comments claimed the fix was short lived, it's been 4 months since I tried this trick on my friends 4S and Wifi is still working like a treat.

As scrimshaw has mentioned, these type of experiments can further damage the electronics onboard hence up to you whether you want to try it.

    • freezers, heaters…. these people arent serious right??

      • A phone without wifi is useless… So what's the harm in trying with an already useless phone?

          @Tm15:

          Or a paperweight?

      • Freezing and Heating it causes the solder joins to expand and contract along with any electronic contacts.
I can and does fix some minor issues.

Freezing is a common fix for failing hard drives that overheat. Leave it in the freezer overnight, then retry in the morning.
Once it's working, recover the data and toss the drive when you're done.

        • toss the drive when you're done.

    u tried the microwave?
I heard it can also charge the battery

  • There is interference in the network could be your wireless phone bluetooth or even the neighboors router.Change wifi radio channel on your router from the default automatic to 13 or any other that works best in your house.

  • THis is a known problem on the iPhone 4S, apple replaced mine for free, try a different

  • As far as i know the Freezer trick was a last ditch effort to restore a mechanical hard drive so you get a chance to retrieve your data before bin'ing it .
And i have a IT friend who had to try it for work and he said he was surpised but it worked.

As for the OP's problem i have no idea , but $275 to replace it seemed excessive .
