My New Samsung Galaxy S5 Damaged due to Battery bought from eBay Australian seller. Seller not respond. Any advise?

Recently I came up with unfortunate situation with my new Samsung Galaxy S5 4G LTE SM-G900 phone which was purchase from Kogan Nov 2014. I have bought Backup replacement battery from ebay seller called dodygroup (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Backup-replacement-battery-for-Sa… )and I had no issues with battery until I found some bulge on side of the glass one morning. Basically I thought this was screen protector and suddenly when I close the s-view cover I was shocked when I see white lines appearing on my screen like old TV and within few seconds screen turn black and died. Finally noticed that LCD digitizer was damaged due to slight pressure on bulge. Previous night I watched you-tube videos 1-2 hours ,turn on night light app and plugs into charger for overnight charging.

I was given my mobile for Technical assessment for Kogan and they have informed its not covered under warranty and discovered following during assessment, technicians had tested the battery for overheating (which could cause such a bulge), they have determined that the battery is caused such a damage.Battery is now change size and bulge on middle. I have contact seller with picture of faulty battery and they never answer for my emails. I have no income to buy a new phone any advise on this matter( any Authority to contact/complain ) highly appreciated. Unfortunately My phone is overseas model and not eligible for recent $55 screen repair.

  • For next time: Always go official samsung batteries. You can still get them reasonably cheap from ebay, even shipped from china but just make sure they are 'genuine', not 'battery for samsung s5'.

    • Thanks jaybmate. learn good lesson this time buying and looking "Cheap" items on eBay.But sold 167 batteries so far. Don't know any other victims. But good lesson for anyone specially with Batteries go for Genuine.

Captain Hinesight here to tell you that you should have put the original battery back in the phone before sending it off to technicians and denied using third party anything with the phone.

Try selling the broken phone on ebay, someone who can fix it might buy it for a nice price (although those scumbags at ebay will take a massive 10%). Then you can buy a cheaper one.

You won't get any help or $ from the battery seller.

    • Thanks for your Advise.much appreciated.

  • This is the risk you take when you use aftermarket batteries. The best you will get off the battery seller is the money back for the battery or a replacement. Samsung will ignore you since it is irrefutable that the aftermarket battery caused the issue.

Furthermore, if the screen is bent, then chances are the PCB is bent. It's unlikely you can fix it, but you can take a gamble on it.

If money is tight, a second hand phone, or a cheapie will be your likely options.

    • Thanks for your advise. seems to be no damage to PCB. I can hear all notification tones.Bought few months ago. Is there any chance can lodge a complain to eBay regarding seller or any Government Body to complain???

Not really. The best you'll ever get is the battery money back.

The seller's ebay username sounds dodgy

    • Haha what a piss take, dodygroup.

    • Haha initially read it as dodgy-group zzz

  • Give them a bad eBay review. Users like that don't usually likes bad reviews and will likely contact you to resolve it quickly so you change it to a positive. I've had people offer to refund AND replace products because I have given them a bad review. ;)

    • I already given them positive. Because its work for fine for couple of weeks. This was noted due to heavy usage of battery on that night.

      • Ahh, I'm sorry then man that was the best idea I had XD

          Thanks Swordling !

  • You were unlucky getting a dud battery. They can all swell, even genuine ones although less likely. There are many fake Samsung batteries too. Usually the fake ones don't have nfc.
