  • I've got some in the mail at the moment.

For $20 I really don't think you can go too wrong. From what I've heard they sound very nice.

Never tried the pistons but have a bunch of their other hardware and it has good build quality and nothing's failed on my yet (except for the mi band's strap which is starting to break around where the pellet goes in)

I have a pair and like them. Not not an audiophile but they seem to sound good to me.

It's "supposed" to be an earphone which works better than even some of $100+ earphones (according to some people).

In my honest opinion with Piston 3, it's alright, definitely worth over $20. Though, is it something that is something that should be hyped and best bang for the buck, every one should get one blah blah blah? Not in my opinion. Definitely, it outperforms $20~30 that I've spent, but that's about it. People bring in these reviews that I think are biased. It happens a lot with these new contenders as far as I see. The biases become norm because of how artistically descriptive (or deceptive) they are. The cans are released less than a month ago (Referring to Piston 3), how many people do you think have gave it a fair go in those walls of texts that praise the earphone ? Frankly speaking, every time I see something like, "It's the best can ever", I go, for whom? This hobby does involve a lot of personal taste as well, and you are going to somehow say that it's going to fit everyone's taste?

I'd frankly spend $30~$40 on KSC-75 over this (if I go for sound and sound only) as it doesn't have that boosted bass that overwhelms some of the sound (it makes the metal songs I listen to sound awful as a result). Of course, you can change around the equaliser, but that's an additional work you have to put in. This obviously has my personal taste as well involved, since unlike many people, I listen to sludge of genres that ranges from metal to classic to whatever that I feel like listening to. There are genres that it goes well with.

TL;DR, Pistons are good (well at least 3 is, never had 2), but not as good as it is hyped to be. Defs worth the price.

    • Koss Portapros are legendary too. They are not earbuds, but on-ears, but it is quite possibly the best sub $30 headphones you can get.

      • KSC-75 uses almost identical units, barring the titanium coating on the diaphragm on KSC-75 (well, I think they sound better than PortaPro but that's my opinion).

        • Both are good headsets, and apparently they will sound amazing once you've performed the Kramer mod on them.

And I will advise people to steer clear of sub- $100 sennheisers. They are crap in the lower price range.

        • @scrimshaw: KSC-75 are cheaper, but uncomfortable. PortaPros are more expensive, but more comfortable.
I usually just wait til the PortaPro gets broken, change the unit with KSC-75. But that's just me.
