  • saw this too but will the price go down more?

    • Cheapest I have seen them before was when DSE had them on a one day sale for $195AUD. I imagine they will drop more when the Pebble Time comes out, but until them who knows…

I got the Pebble Steel delivered for $167ish from DWI 3 days ago.

i heard the screens dont last on these things, what do u guys think

    • 1 yr uptime for my plastic Pebble - all is good.

    • Plastic pebble - I've had for around 2 years now. Still works great, screens fine - but it isn't scratch resistant, so if you're not careful, it can scuff up.

    • +1

I'm on my second pebble. Had the distorted screen problem on both. But pebble support is great, if you email them they'll send you a brand new replacement watch, even if you're out of warranty. You don't even need to send your old one back. They are shipping me my third one at the moment.

It's also an easy fix if you're up for some DIY, just open it up and put a shim behind the screen connector. After pebble has shipped your replacement of course. (http://forums.getpebble.com/discussion/18043/fixed-screen-te…)

  • The original pebble at US$89 is A$112 - but even recently Dick Smith has had these at comparable or lower prices, you just have to wait for the right sale.

And it's much better to send one back to Dick Smith.

  • how would we send back to USA pebble?

  • i bought this pebble 2 about year ago, it was on pre sale.

it works good for me. and screen has no problem.

i am wear it when i am swimming as well.

it is good with basic functions.

I bought my Pebble last year when DSE had them delivered for $129. Really indispensable now!

For me, its one of the best purchases - I wear it everyday! No complains at all.

Agreed, I've got mine from Dicksmith sale and i was lucky enough to get it just under $80.

I started off just using it as a test run and a nice to have geeky gadget, but I didn't realise how much I started depending on it after couple of months.

For me it's getting to the point where I have to give up wearing a very nice ordinary watch (and I adore all nice watches in the old fashion way) just so I can use what the pebble can provide me…

    • +1

Agreed - I love my Pebble. Purchased the original (non-steel) at a DSE online sale a year or two ago and it's great. I rotate it with several other watches, as that model doesn't look great with everything (ie. better when casual gear). Good to the point that I would consider picking up a steel for work use.

Guess then I need to decide if I want to stick with Pebble, or sample another of the growing list of smart watches on the market.

    • Hi there,

May I ask how you are depending on the watch?

I've considered getting a watch like this in the past, but haven't been able to justify the purchase just for the main purpose of checking messages (does it do whatsapp, wechat msg notifications?) a second faster.

      Thanks!

It's not going to replace your phone BUT it's:

        1. Handy
        2. Nice to be able to have a different watch face as desired (variety)
        3. If you're away from your desk conferring with a colleague or in a meeting, you can see who is phoning or check a text without looking at phone. Accept or reject call.
        4. Control your music - skip tracks, start, stop, see track information etc.
        5. Apps - weather at a glance, stock market info, keep tabs on footy scores with AFL app - that's a cool one.
        6. See meeting reminders, whatsapp, alerts - anything that pushes to your phone screen basically.
        7. Plus more.

There's no easy way to respond to text messages or anything like that, so you still need to pickup the phone, but it is useful enough to warrant wearing.

I don't use it as a sports watch with the relevant apps as I have a dedicated watch for that but there are a few apps that bring in that functionality also - ie. runkeeper / runkeeper pro etc.

        Cheers.

PS. It has a very strong developer community so there are always new ideas being brought to it :)

        • Thanks for the detailed reply.

That helps alot in my decision to buy one :)

Does what's app and all other messages, only one that hasn't worked for me is viber messages.

Tells the time and date, apart from that I use Sleep As Android which tracks my sleep and has a silent (watch vibrate) alarm which is good if you wake up at a different time to your partner, and I use Jawbone Up app to track my daily step count. One issue is that since I started using sleep as android my step (profanity) hasn't been syncing to the phone (my sleep patterns do) I have tried to trouble shoot it yet so not sure if it's a bug or the apps are incompatible.

I also tend to miss a lot of calls without my Pebble, but with it you don't miss a thing. It also saves some of your phone battery as you aren't constantly turning on your phone to check messages. You can also reject calls on the first ring which is good if you left your phone on in a meeting.

There's some other apps (PayPal and eBay messages come through so I always know when I sold something or a watched item is nearing end) but most of the other apps I have found to be novelties, although if anyone knows any useful ones I am all ears as I haven't checked in ages.

        1. Hardly ever miss a call since I strapped on the Pebble, you have to be doing some extremely sport to ignore the STRONG vibration it had

        2. Vibrate when you discount from the phone and it's not just gimmick, it actually saved my phone once when I left my phone in the cafe and my Pebble started vibrates when I went to my car and ready to drive away

        3. Don't need to keep pulling out my phone when I am doing stuff or on the move and waiting for either important phone call or message

        4. Easy to play music while I am walking.

        5. This is something overlooked by almost all android watch at the moment. The physical buttons. Yes, it looks slick without one and it looks kinda dorky with them. However, without a physical button is one of the main reason I ditched my LG G watch (and currently collecting dust). It's hard to convince unless you try it yourself. Yes, android wear usez touch and slide to control the watch, in theory and with 100% concentration when use, it's fine. But in reality, it's not. 80% of the time you will be wanting to do some thing QUICKLY and SWIFTLY and No, you will hardly succdfully achieve that via slide and touch. Only physical button works 100% of the time when you press it. The usability is simply double just because of the button.. At least for me it is absolutely essential.

Screen has started flashing on my pebble. Took a video of it and sent it to support. They took less than one day to process my request and have a new one in the mail to me. Best service I've ever had for anything!

    • are you within your warranty period?

      • +1

yes, but to be honest, I wasn't even asked when I contacted support. Apparently the flashing screen is far from an isolated issue. Would it stop me from purchasing a pebble again? No way, in fact a few of my friends now have them after seeing how useful mine is. It is one of the only reasonably priced solutions that can be used swimming and kayaking etc. It has a swimming app which uses predetermined lap lengths and then uses the gyrometer to count laps for you. I use a waterproof enclosure for my phone and take it kayaking. The endomondo app works flawlessly with the pebble to show me how far I have paddled when the phone is safely packed away in my waterproof pack. Mine has a fair few scratches etc on it from using it while doing sports, but it keeps on kicking on.

        • Check out this post on the pebble forums, you can fix up your watch pretty easily.

I just had to buy a $2 torx screwdriver from Bunnings.

        • do you get to keep your broken watch as well?

        • @jes: yes

  • +2

Support has been exceptional for my Pebble, bought from DSE, but would be the same even if I bought it direct from Pebble USA

I can't highly enough recommend this company

    • do you get to keep your broken watch as well? (from dse)

      • yes

  • Dick Smith has been very unkind with me, practically passed me from store to store. Ended up contacting support got responce within 24Hr given all info provided, with a reply we are processing your replacement. There is no doubt customer service is exellent. However ill wait for the Pebble Time given it is almost launch time.

  • how long does backorder take?
