Making sense of an online quote

So, I am looking for a flight from Sydney to Zurich. As one does, I fill in the Flight Centre air fare form with the dates and destinations. After a little while a few pages of offers pop up. Amongst them is a special, leaving Sunday 12 July, returning Friday 7 August, about $300.- cheaper than the rest. Perfect, the dates match and the destination matches but it is an Instore special only. I print it out and wander off to the nearest Flight Centre, to be told these are the prices for February 2016. The helpful Travel Agent's best suggestion is to contact Customer Relations.

Customer relations sends a different set of screen shots, no dates on it, just a from price and a destination with this explanation:
Please kindly refer to the screen shots below, the first being the shot you attached to us which shows the July airfares to Zurich at our fantastic prices. Please note the advertisement for $1468 fares available in store which comes with terms and conditions which are listed after clicking the link "details". Please note the page this takes you to is the second below attachment which stipulates February - March 2016 as the travel dates.
The purpose of this marketing is to allow our price conscious customers who are flexible with their dates the opportunity to travel at a later time to have the benefit of great savings. We trust this clarifies your concerns and thank you for the opportunity to assist you in providing an explanation to the matter.

Did I just fall for bait advertising? Hmm, I wish I knew how to attach pictures to this thing.

I would say misleading and deceptive.

  • I just did a trial run on iPhone. Not misleading to me. It does say "from", it has a huge asterix followed by arrows prompting me to click the image, it looks like an ad as it has no dates or times and is just floating among other proper detailed quotes. But maybe I have a few months longer than you on this internet thing and know how web sites bait.

    • Yes, that's what it looks like now, when I printed it out it had dates and times as described in the post. Maybe you do have longer on this internet thing, but I doubt it makes any difference as you obviously didn't comprehend the story line.

      • Ah ok sorry. If the dates and destinations are on it, I think it is dodgy and there should be an option to get that from price in store.
