Best ISPs?

My 24 month contract with telstra has come to an end, I'm looking for another isp both faster and cheaper. Anyone have any good suggestions? Much appreciated.

We don't use homephone much but we certainly do use the internet, we would need at least 400gb

    • I'd like to see further details on how they source this data.

Wondering if they are selecting a few chosen suburbs and comparing ISPs, or doing it nation wide collection of netflix subscribers.

      • yea thats so biased , telstra have to service some pretty undesirable areas that have insanely low speeds that tpg is not avalible in.
not defending telstra just saying it seems biased .

then again tpgs been great for me!

    • Thanks, so far I'm leaning towards tpg

    • average speed doesn't mean the best speed. I would advice OP to see what type of connection they can get for their home address with Optus. May be able to get fibre which is the same price as other connections while being faster.

  • +1

It's all subjective. Depends on what you have access to. Is unmetered Netflix something you'd consider, then look at iinet.

Noone can say 'ISP X will be faster than ISP Y'.

    • Just adding to Spackbace, what is your budget? How much data do you need? Does Optus and Telstra have access to your switch or just Telstra?

Speed is never guaranteed, especially if it is adsl. You're better off looking for something that will suit you in terms of data and price.

TPG and AusBBS have unlimited plans for around $60… planning on switching over to AusBBS myself (although I will have to pay $85 since I'm not able to get their on-net bundle).

Optus still has the deal (i think) for $90 unlimited with fetch TV.

      • Telstra only has access I believe, cost I'm looking for something under $130 which consists of home phone and internet, and also looking for 400gb+

        • You're in the same boat I'm in… my area is only serviced by Telstra so you need to find Telstra resellers. As such, Optus and I believe TPG is out of the option for you.

Perhaps you can try AusBBS? You can also check with Internode as I am currently with them so I know they resell Telstra network too.

        • @ProjectZero: How do you find internode? Is it a good service?

        • @Kawaii69: CS is great, but they don't offer 400GB+ for your budget… might have to compromise abit.

        • If you set a timer on your downloads for off-peak (easy enough to do) iinet has 250Gb/250Gb for $119.90/month with turbo pack, unmetered Netflix and home phone. That's for the offnet price.

Just a note that you can do that month-to-month, just pay the $79.95 connection fee, but then you're not tied down if you dont like the speed/service

  • I use Exetel $40 per month ADSL with 100GB including line rental. Never had an issue with speed.

    • I'm on the same plan with Exetel. Download speeds are fine (Netflix streams well in HD, Stan struggles for some reason despite working on Vodafone 4G). Upload speeds are pathetic (a couple of dozen kb/s). I don't think exchange distance/congestion helps. I might go for Telstra cable next time around…

For the price, Exetel is incredible.

      • Gone up in price now by an extra $5 per month. Still really good value compared to others.

      • The customer service though…

        • … is surprisingly good (been with them for 3 years). The best help desk I've dealt with is iiNet, and the worst i've heard of is TPG.

If you are a crazy gamer/torrenter, the Exetel ping time is not as good as Internode.

        • @daewoo: From my experience dealing with iiNet and Internode is that they both have really good CS.

I know iiNet supposedly owns Internode so that could be the reason.
