In Dash Multimedia and Navigation Unit

Hey ppl

I'm currently looking for an in dash nav and multimedia unit but everything I find is well over $1000.

Am I just looking in the wrong place or are they really that expensive? Anyone have any knowledge on what to look for or have any experience with them?

Thanks

  • Have a look on fleabay or similar if you are looking for a cheap unit. Failure amongst the cheap units is common so make sure you get something with a aust warranty service.

Get one that runs android OS as you will not be stung for updating the satnav maps. You can use HereMaps in it.

I was going to get one but common sense prevailed… I just use my smartphone with heremaps.

You may find more info on what is reliable or not by searching some 4x4 forums.

  • If you want something with android they tend to be a little pricier. I find that odd considering the cost of cheap tablets.

You can get units for around $300-400 that run WinCE and you can put commercial mapping software on. Google Maps is just so darn convenient that I'd rather an android one. I have a single din unit myself, however find that unless it's a long trip I won't bother using it since Google Maps and the traffic suggestions etc are so great.

Try https://www.chinavasion.com/ , they aren't the absolute cheapest however service is great. We've ordered touchscreen monitors from them at work and I've personally ordered some cameras and navigation units and they've been really responsive. 3 days in my hands from China, every time.

From experience the best in dash multimedia and navigation unit is either Flyaudio or roadrover and in my opinion they are better than factory unit. They have everything you need, fast processor and ram. They have many unit that specially designed to fit in your dashboard without the need of cutting wires or playing around. Dont bother yourself contacting the local Flyaudio dealer as most likely he will not have any unit in stock and he will order it from China, flyaudio head quarter in china will refuse you sell you directly and will ask you to contact your local dealer. In 2012 i bought a unit for Toyota camry from flyaudio dealer in Dubai which cost me around $700-$800 with shipping based on your negotiation skills :) Installation cost me around $150 with the rear camera. Check your car here if its supported or no http://www.flyaudio.net/product.asp . Let me know if you have any question about flyaudio as i tried them and can gurrante their quality. Goodluck.

    • Thanx, I will look into it.
