200

50% off Bluray when you buy a player in store at JB. Saw the posters today. Limit of 30 titles in the same transaction. Might be a good way to get those expensive Madman box sets ($306 for Studio Ghibli, $153 after).

  • What's the cheapest Blu-Ray player they have?

Not sure if refurbs count, but: there's this 3D Soniq refurb for only $69:

That's the cheapest player (including 2D). But I don't want a refurb (especially since I know how little the service centres test them before declaring them "fine" and sending them back out) and would prefer a brand name.

But besides the one above, the cheapest 3D one from JB is a whopping $166:

      There's this 2D LG for $88:

    • Anything you can price match - I've always had no problems at all getting them to do so.

      • …I wonder if they've noticed a decline in blu-ray sales already since the release of Netflix?

Could that be the cause of this sale? Trying to clear stock out before more people realise that blu-ray is declining (or at least going to end up being more about 3D, best picture/sound quality, and titles that aren't online, for the next little while, and eventually totally obsolete?)

They ran this deal last year as well around the same time. Don't think that would be the reason. But I agree with you on Netflix impact. I myself can see spending less on titles since I subscribed to Netflix US a year ago.Particularly TV seasons.

  • The Studio Ghibli idea is pretty good actually. As long as you know someone who genuinely has a need for a new blu-ray player.

  • Will the boxsets count as 1 title? if so then awesome deal

Whats the quality of the madman Ghibli boxset like? They've been panned in the past for filtering the buggery out of everything and ruining the visual quality. Including with Ghibli titles.

Debating whether I import it to get a release done by a company that has a clue.

    • Which ones had issues?

      • Afraid I'm not going to re-find it from a 2 year old investigation, you'll have to do the research.

        • This is the first I've heard of it. Hard to believe Ghibli and Disney would let something like that slip through though. Wouldn't Madman use the same masters as the Disney US releases? Was it issues with the DVD version?

  • Do they still sell the Soniq or Laser brand that has multi region DVD?

    • AFAIK there's only one region free blu ray player and it's from Laser. Only The Good Guys have it.

  • Wow, that's practically buy a studio Ghibli box set get a blu ray player free.

And still cheaper than 20% off from before if you buy a cheapo player.

So uh.. A PS4 counts as a bluray player, right?

    • pretty sure they mean stand-alone Blu-Ray players

      • +1

I was half joking, but you might get lucky with the right salesperson. As Mudkipz said the PS3 has been in this deal before.

        • +1

PS4 consoles are included in this deal - was at Nunawading in Vic and they had signs all over the store.

    • PS3 has been included previously…not sure about PS4 and now.

They've learnt from Dick Smith on how to do sales. Never seen so many $60+ a season tv series blu-rays…
