from nicks….
The Highland Park Vintage Editions range consists of four whiskies which were distilled in 1998, 1994, 1990 and 1973. The team looked into their maturing stocks to find sherry-seasoned casks which would showcase different dimensions of the classic distillery profile from honey sweetness to aromatic peat. According to the Master Distiller, the 1994 highlights the former characteristics associated with HP's house style.

If it wasn't for spirits drinkers the budget would blow out another 10 billion. 70% taxation rate isn't it?

    rather sad really
we get shafted on most things that are imported - scotch is certainly no exception to this rule

"The crisp blue of the label reflects the deep sea and big sky of Orkney."

    Origin Scotland, Islay

Which is it, Orkney or Islay? Cos they're at opposite ends of Scotland.
EDIT: come to think of it, I'm pretty sure Highland Park doesn't have a distillery on Islay.

    • Yes, I was confused by this too.

    • from wiki

Highland Park distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery based in Kirkwall, Orkney. It is the most northerly whisky distillery in Scotland, half a mile farther north than that at Scapa distillery.

  • Based on the regular price am I right in assuming that this is a better buy than the Lagavulin? I gather from the Jim Murray's quote above that the HP is more sweet more than peat?

better buy - hard to say with scotches
lagavulin is honestly one of my favourites (i'm a peat man myself)

the quote was not from jim's BTW (that was just his score)

      • Understand what you mean - I'm a peat man too and a big fan of the likes of Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Laphroaig.

  • $85 in QLD as well.

  • Any way to wipe the delivery?

    • Find a store and pick it up… if they dont have it call them and demand they get it in!

      • Oh true, this isn't online only

  • Lots of good whisky specials there at the moment - this is probably the best of them, but I picked up a Suntory Hakashu for 80 bucks - normally about 120 from memory.

    • Picked up a Highland Park 1990 for $110, discount isn't as great but still decent in my opinion. Normally $170ish (from what I can see) from the little retailers that have stock left (considering these were restricted to travel outlets on initial release, like the JW Explorer Club Collection.
