Persistantly Loose Door Handles

Hi guys

I recently bought a newish house and all the interior door handles keep coming loose and rattling around.. I tighten them on a regular basis.. But due to the flimsy way they are bolted together, the threads strip very easily and can therefore not tighten them too much… The bolts don't tighten in the back of the opposite handle, they come half way and have this silly brass coupler that is just folded, not milled.

I know the proper answer is to change them all to a higher quality model, but I'm too cheap to go out and buy ~18 sets..

Does anyone have some half-way suggestions?

You could try using Teflon tape for plumbing on the threads.

    or non-permanent thread locker ?

    • I used Loctite Threadlocker on my number plate bolts that kept loosening due to resonance from the exhaust on my motorcycle.

  • Try some silastic on the threads… helps to stop them from working loose.
I have used it on taps that work loose and it works fine.
In the meantime keep an eye out for run out or clearance door handles. I bought some nice ones a while back for $5 a set.
