NAB Credit Card - How Soon after Receiving Bonus QFF Points Should I Close Account?

OzBargainers, I took up the annual free NAB CC deal with 40000 bonus QFF points (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/179786). I've fulfilled the requirements and the miles have been deposited into my QFF account.

How soon after do you think I can close the account? Is there a clawback period where they could request Qantas to remove the points from my account due to me closing the account? I want to take up another offer before the end of the calendar year to get some more miles and don't want to get rejected for having too much credit.

Thanks in advance!

  • If you're worried about it, leave it say a month or two.
As far as I know, once you've got the bonus points, they're yours to keep. Unless you did something dodgy to get them, I don't think they could legitimately claim them back from you.

  • +2

Nothin to worry about mate… Just play it cool - "Why you you leaving us?", "Sorry, I'm moving to NZ".

    Done.

Cancel mine whilst driving home. ;-)

  • Awesome thanks

    • Yeah, play it cool and just remember that they will likely try and convince you to stay. So either have a reason that it's not possible to stay (I.e. moving overseas), or be very firm that you just want to go ahead and cancel.

  • I'm going to give "Applying for a mortgage, and my broker told me to close all the cards I don't use" a try. Hopefully they don't try and upsell me on a mortgage though.
