  • s3 4g

    • That's about $350 for local stock but otherwise fits the requirement perfect;y

  • Gionee Elife e7? It apparently has a pretty good camera.

Or maybe Jiayu S3 with 3GB of RAM.. $239.99 USD after a coupon code.

Some info about the phone on XDA

  • I'd say to push the budget by $50 if you can to get the Samsung Galaxy S3 4G.
Great 720p AMOLED screen, 2GB RAM, fast quad core CPU with a good Mali 400 GPU, great 8MP camera. Upgradable to 4.4 and has plenty of Cyanogen support for Lollipop.

Also has 4G and a removable battery and an SD slot. No dual SIM (the S3 Neos has dual sim and is under $300 but only has 1.5GB RAM, no 4G and a slower CPU).

    • Looks good but for the same price wouldn't an octocore/1080p/3gb ram/bigger screen overseas phone be better value?

      • Go a name brand. Lots of Chinese phones have build quality(dust in camera, screen, gps, touch screen) or firmware build or future update issues.

      • It also depends how long you want to keep it for. I think a former-flagship Samsung phone would last longer than a Chinese phone.
The Asus Zenfone2 looks like great value though.

  • You haven't specified Telstra, Optus or Vodafone. Which is important when looking at Chinese options.

    • Telstra

  • For use on Telstra, you can consider the New Asus Padfone Infinity (A86) (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-ASUS-Padfone-Infinity-16GB-A8…)
    Or LG G2 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Unlocked-LG-G2-D802-GSM-4G-LT…)

If you are looking at the Elephone P7000… it's about $295 AUD, but build quality might be questionable due to Elephone being one of the "clone" brands. Meizu and even Gionee and some other bigger brands might have better quality.

Also, the two that @scrimshaw mentioned are no good for Telstra.

I'd say the ASUS Zenfone 2 at the moment is what I would go with. The lower spec model (ZE550ML) is available from eGlobal (bought a phone from them a few weeks ago, arrived days later) for A$252 shipped including a free 16000mah Xiaomi powerbank with a coupon code as per this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194566 . The higher spec ZE551ML was recently available for $329 delivered, I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks the $300 barrier soon.

  • Mi4i would be available via online stores.

no MicroSD is a killer for this phone, especially with only 16Gb. If it had a SD slot on the other hand…

      • I guess the next logical model would be the Xiaomi Redmi 2 then.
