Yes, Penny skateboards are overpriced in general but this is a pretty good deal if you have to buy this brand of plastic skateboard. To my knowledge, you can't even get a Penny deck or trucks for under $50.

You'll already qualify for free regular or express shipping as the price before the 20% off code is just a smidge over $50.

coupon warm30 brings it down to $37.50, also available on their eBay shop ($37.50)

    • +1

just tried warm30 and it says "coupon has already expired"

also the eBay listing is $35.70 plus $9.99 postage.

  • This seems like a good deal, why is no one jumping on it?

    • maybe the pattern isn't to their liking?
personally i'm not too keen on plastic skateboards and prefer wood but wood + rainy days don't mix ;)

  • Can't seem to get the free shipping. Maybe they're now calculating it based on the discounted price. $90 isn't quite so attractive.

    Discount -$10.20 AUD
    Sub total $40.80 AUD
    Shipping$49.99 AUD
    Total $90.79 AUD

    • i just tried with guest checkout and the only shipping option is giving me is Free Regular Bulky Shipping (signature required) $0.00

tried a couple more times - tried a different address (home rather than PO) ,added a second board, removed it, and finally it worked! On it's way now for $40. Little Eddy will be very pleased. Thanks OP

  • Would that be a good choice for a 30yo 100kg male to start learning skateboarding and shorten the commute from office to a train station?

    • depends. best to go into a shop and try out standing on a penny. perhaps a slightly bigger 27 inch Penny nickel would be more suited to you. or even a mini wood cruiser like this: http://www.obfiveskateboards.com.au/product/circa-70-cruiser… would feel more stable for a beginner.

    • +2

I think a penny would be very difficult for an adult to learn on. I would strongly suggest a bigger board.

    • +1

I'm a new skater… most people recommend a cruiser board starting from 28" and longer. I myself use a 26" and find it a bit too small.

My brother has a 32" one and I find the stability to be the best on a bigger board. Yes it will be heavier to carry around but it's a lot easier to learn on.

when i was a kid, i started on a standard ~30inch popsicle deck. when i wanted to get back into skateboarding again, i wanted to ride smaller decks and so had to learn all over again with a 17" mini board. was difficult but you keep at it and you'll get used to it. so much so that when i tried a 20" deck, i wasn't used to all that space :D

for newbies i recommended tightening the trucks a bit so that you're stable enough but can still turn by leaning. also upgrade the bushings if you can (bones hardcore ftw) but Penny's standard bushings seem decent enough.

i also can't stress the importance of pushing correctly i.e. pushing with your rear foot while your front foot is planted over the bolts. pushing mongo (using your front foot to push while your back foot is on the deck) especially on a mini cruiser will hurt your progress when learning to skate

Bought one gonna replace out the deck with something slightly larger that I will make from wood. Cheaper than crappy separate trucks and wheels from ebay so great deal.

    • yeah, it's hard to get trucks that small for a reasonable price

    • Would like to do the same, please share which deck you'll have. Thanks!

marking this expired as they've bumped the price back up to $169.99 (lol tell em ees dreamin)

    • +1

just noticed that too. thank god i jumped on the deal yesterday

      • Is your order still showing processing on their website?

        • mine was shipped yesterday

        • Mine hasn't shipped yet… Do you think the price was by error?

        • @scyth3r: likely. you rarely see Penny completes close to $100, let alone around $50.

        • +1

@tdw: just got an email that mine has shipped!

        • +1

          @scyth3r: \o/

    • brilliant. i'm so tempted to get another one.

    • +1

No longer on ebay. You can still go to the listing, but it has 0 available for sale.

Got mine in the mail yesterday…. Super ugly colour but for the price and considering I just want the hardware its great value. Thanks OP!

    • +1

i hated the design when i bought it and was planning on just painting the bottom with matte black plastidip but the design and colour is growing on me haha

      • The bottom design although very busy isn't too bad. The green on the top make me want to throw up…. :P

  • +2

Got mine yesterday too. Not to shabby considering the price.
Now to find some cheap clear grip tape.

  • +1

Should've known somebody was going to buy and sell again on ebay…

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-Penny-Skateboard-Hunting-…

Someone actually bought 15 of them

    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    • grubs. good luck to them trying to sell all of them though…i sure as hell would not pay $118 for something that hideous

      • I actually like the design, I prefer it over the solid colours at least. As long as you don't look closely at what the graphics are :P
