Free Random Lucky Prizes Draw

Since it is the usual suspects/people that win for that other awards….

====

I have a suggestion…

How about giving free random lucky prizes draw to members each month.

3 awards:
First, second and third prize draws.

And if they have already won, then they can't win it twice until all members at least won.

So everyone can at least win once.

I thought the point of the awards was to recognize people who contributed the most, or contributed popular deals and things like that to the site? I don't really see the point of having random lucky draws (and who would pay for any "prizes"?). Doesn't sound very ozbargain to me X)

I never said to get rid of those prizes..

I was just saying in addition to those prizes
Since the winners are pretty much the same bunch every year
      -JV
      -TA
      -Trent
      -EC ?

      etc…

Why not give some other members some prizes..

      ==

This site makes quite a bit of money.
Since they can donate money to charity each year.

And if it can't afford it, then members can opt in to a $1 donation to enter the raffle ticket type of competition.
So if each $1 you donate, entitles you to 1 ticket..
More dollars you donate, more tickets for you.

That money can be used to purchase prizes or used as a prize $ amount.

So you don't donate or buy a ticket, you can't win..

Maybe this is a better alternative option.

It would make the site more fun and winners more unpredictable.

What is this, everyone wins a prize day?

It's a bonus towards sharing deals/competitions that the member found, not by spamming forum posts/comments.

If you contribute, you win the award, simple really.

      Sharing deals?

Most deals nowadays are just the same fillers deals..by the same people
      -TA
      -EC

I don't have an issue with those, but I see most of time the same deals are posting daily..by those posters

      -udemy
      -amazon ebooks
      -free apps
      -domino codes

There is hardly much good deals anymore, except for the yearly ebay % discount.

When was the last time there a really good deal?

      I haven't seen it for a while!

      ===
Who are you saying is spamming.
      This is a free site..
people are entitle to their own opinions

If you don't like it, then buzz off..

      • Nice to see you upvote udemy deals

There is hardly much good deals anymore, except for the yearly ebay % discount.

Feel free to post them up when/if you find some

If you don't like those rules, then buzz off..

I'm sorry but isnt it you that doesn't like the current rules?

I never said I had deals.
I was just alot of the deals are just the same filler deals daily..

          Go and Learn to read!

          ==

what rules, I am saying people are free to post their comments/opinion
so don't say it is spam..

Last I checked I didn't aim that at you, but take it as you will.

What would you set the comp rules at? Any member could win? Any active member could win? Any member with at least 1 deal post in the month could win? Any member with at least 1 comment could win?

Please enlighten us how this random draw should work.

        • @Spackbace:

If you learnt how to read properly you will see that I never said to get rid of the old competition.

In addition to the old competition there would a random prize one…

Go learn to read english properly.

Anyways Scotty said laws prevent this, so this is the end of the discussion

        • @Spackbace:

          your point is?

  • How about giving free random lucky prizes

How about you check out the competitions section of the site where there are endless lucky draw prizes…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/competition

    • Those are outside of ozbargain..

This site makes quite a bit of money.

Also EC has made new thread where he complains that is is "not fair"

what do u mean contribution? As EC has said many "Winners" might just been posting filler bargains just to increase their quota of bargains.

  • +2

    No.

Random draws needs permit in NSW and maybe other states. Yes you need a license to throw the dice. However skill-based competition doesn't require the license. We used to have a random prize (many years ago) but these days we need to be more compliant so we decided not have it anymore.

    • I see,

      Dammit!

But this site can afford it if it was allowed right?

I just made this thread coz I read EC thread about fairness,
so a random prize would be very fair.

Since every year it is always same predictable Gang of Winners..

      -JV
      -TA
      -Trent
      -EC ?

      ===

But since you said this is due to state laws..
      then…

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nc42tliHDE

    • If it was not cause of the law,
      would you still have it?

Since the income generated from site nowadays would be much more than back then..
Would it be to costly to still hold it now?

What was the prizes back then?

      • Something like $20 to $25? I have no comment with your other question, but I was just stating why OzBargain does not have random prize right now.

        • ok thanks..

just getting bored of the same predictable winners each year

also looks like other people are having a bit of sook about fairness..
          -EC..

So I just thought a random draw would be very fair..

Anyways thanks for letting me know why there's no random prize draws.

@tyler.durden: Mate I can't agree with you more.

Ozbargain has just become the same average deals every week since the same members are exploiting the site for monetary gain.

Don't try arguing with them as they are defensive and might even have ghost accounts upvoting their deals.

        • @ShamelessBargains:

          So true…

I wonder how much of an income can you make from posting deals?

        • @tyler.durden:

          $100 a month x 12 = $1200 + $1000 for being Ozbargainer of the Year.

TA made about $2k off this site last year. Surprised he is not an admin or moderator on the site yet.

        • +1

          @ShamelessBargains:

In fact he made the monthly comp 9 times

So all up he made $1900.

          http://blog.ozbargain.com.au/2015/ozbargain-zeitgeist-2014-t…

He posted 593 deal posts last year, so effectively he made $3.20/deal post.

If anyone has seen what he does in order to post up a deal, even in the deal formatting, you'd say that the $3.20 certainly doesn't make up for the time spent.

        • @Spackbace: $3.20 is better than what most Ozbargainers will earn posting a deal though.

I wonder if people just post just to get up votes now rather than being because they think it's a great deal. Home page is getting hammered lately with the same weekly/monthly deals..

  • I like the random prize idea. Perhaps the prize could be ozbargain themed. Perhaps the winner could receive a unique 5% off code to use at Dick Smith (with appropriate exclusions) or buy 2 pizzas, get 10% off a garlic bread voucher for dominoes?
