Activating International Roaming with Amaysim

I am going to Europe for 4 weeks and will be visiting 4 different countries. Instead of getting a sim card in each country I decided to activate international roaming just in case I get lost and need the instructions….

I don't want to receive any sms or phone calls. Is there a way of switching these off and just turning on cellular data when I need it?

Any tips in general would be greatly appreciated.

    seems like crazy prices!

Data roaming (per 10KB rounding) 23.667c

load facebook accidentally, bye bye money

  • If you're not fussed about receiving calls or texts from your normal number I'd recommend just getting a sim card from Europe when you get there.
The rates inc roaming rates around Europe are lot cheaper then you get from here.
It also depends on what country you are starting from.

When I was in UK - I had "3" Sim card which also worked around Europe.
But there are a few different sims and deals, just do a google search for "best sim card for Europe" there's a few topics on it in whirlpool forum and tripadvisor forums.

Assuming you are going to the UK first, then getting a THREE sim with 30 days of charge is the smartest move.

You can get them here for $40 - eg http://www.simcorner.com/shop

That gives you 300mins of calls, 3000 texts, and unlimited data.

It also, via "Feel at Home" gives you the same calls etc. in 25 different countries, including many in Europe. All you lose is unlimited data (it drops to 25GB).

  • Roaming data is crazy expensive. Better off getting a local SIM or leeching off hotspots. The only reason I activate roaming is to get SMSes (which are free to receive anywhere) for second factor authentication codes. The rest of the time overseas I disable the SIM.

  • Woolworths Global Roaming Travelling SIM you can get from Woolworth supermart and buy one for minimum $10 prepaid You get a UK SIM number which will suit your trip to Europe. It worked perfectly for us even in the US. You can top up online when overseas, no need to call. They have great deals online so check for promos first if you can order the SIM card online. It will find you the cheapest connection whichever country you are.
