Buying a Mobile Phone Watch?

Been watching and waiting for the right time to buy a 'phone-watch' - not an Apple watch but just a 'mediocre' mobile phone watch gadget thing but just not sure which one to get, do you guys think it's a good time to buy a mobile phone-watch or is it too early because it's really just in the early stages of development. Eg. a 'gadget' for 'kids' especially 'big kids'?? i was thinking about some sites like dealsmachine.com or gearbest.com that have some good phone-watches for sale. anyone have any suggestions.
Back in the 90s we could only dream of this existing…

You're looking at generic smartwatches and not branded ones? The Omate Truesmart is one that was succesfully funded on Kickstarter and is apparently not complete crap according to reviews online… even a few people on Whirlpool report that it's a pretty decent device.

The other el-cheapo phone watches I would assume would be no more than toys all plagued by similar issues ranging from poor audio quality, poor battery life, no Google Play support etc. and reviews are hard to find since the chinese sites will automatically censor reviews that are less than favourable and only show you 5 star ones. Look on Amazon for uncensored reviews.

Do keep in mind if you receive a dud watch you will have pay through your nose to ship it back via international courier for a refund, as these watches use lithium batteries.

  • I'm loving my Pebble Steel I got under $175.

  • The only 'decent' phone watch is the Samsung Galaxy Gear S. Battery will just last one day if used sparingly and has most features you can expect from a smart phone.

  • Original Pebble - ~$100 from Dick Smith quite regularly.

Cheap, but actually useful and useable. 7 day battery and a watchface that's always on + 6000 apps.

    • It's not a mobile phone though. It's a smartwatch; can't make calls on its own because it doesn't have a 2g / 3g connection.

      • True, but there's little point to those at the moment, the battery, etc. just isn't anywhere near beefy enough to make them credible, to say nothing of the non-existent usability.
