New Car Fiat Freemont on 'sale' $29,000 to End of May

There has been long discussions on Fiat SUV. But this offer http://www.toowoombafiatalfa.com.au/new/fiat/freemont is available for base mode upgraded with auto, 7 seats, and exiting choice of 1 colour. Really a Crysler of sorts.

I have a toyota camray which has proven not the best for our needs. Model ok this car not [it happens].

Really want 7 seater, under $30 and auto. 7 Aldults [6 either tall or heavey or big and one short with downs syndrom] This is one off loads where as only 3 of us Big, heavey and short.

Can anyone suggest or comment on this vehicle. Sadly only short time and my next steps is to sit in vehicle, work out service cost.

Be aware, this is coming from a Holden salesman…

Go look at a 2nd hand Ford Territory. Yet to find a bigger middle-row seat in similar priced SUVs (from Captiva to Pajero to Prado etc). I have 2 kids in car seats, so I've tested quite a few cars.

Given the Jeep underpinnings of the Freemont, I'd stay away.

Seriously, if you need room for at least 6 tall/big people, look at a Territory

    • Love your work. My partner is not happy behind the wheel of the Territory but she did drive our light ace like a she-devil much to the amusement of the kids and their friend when taxi service was called for [ every day school pick up, Still have the silver paper car but middle seats removed so to move junk ect. 30yo and 103,000ks. repairs cost more than insurance value. Will give a test drive to your suggestions but really do not need off road car. I had a german built VW that did the same as most off road cars do now and more [ change lanes on bridges when a truck went past] Thanks

      • It's on 'off-road', merely an SUV that fits what you're after. Won't be much bigger than the freemont!

A friend had one - the petrol model is very underpowered but he was happy with everything else

The same car as a Dodge Journey. I think the Fiat was slightly less powered…

I'm no car person but even I found it under powered when I drove it. It felt like towing a trailer with a moped.

Great features if you can get past that.

And of course you need to get past the fact that it's basically a rebadged Dodge.

    • Good point here, as I am past my hoon period [can't afford the fine and points] I drive to lower fuel cost and save tires [ get abused alot for keeping to speed limit and getting out of the way of trucks] compensating for the loss of power stuffs the fuel usage, But toys are good!

  • Thanks for the help. Like many things, if it is only a short time to do it, it may not be the opportunity as the one late add promoted. OK if I go for this later on I may have to pay for the auto and the extra two seats but at least there will be a range of colour.

Kluger ""2WD"" used.. might be able to find one around $30k around 3-4 y/o?
I emphasise the 2wd version because the awd one can be a bit thirsty.
Very good on fuel even though it is a powerful 3.5L V6, ours is more economical than our 7 y/o 4 cyl camry.
Cheap to service and very durable.. would last longer and be more reliable than a rebranded Chrysler.
The Kluger may look a large car but they are exactly the same dimensions as the current camrys except for the hight.
You may find you are working the 4cyl motor in the Fiat hard to push a suv that size even if you are a moderate driver.

My brother managed to get a brand new base model Nissan Xtrail 7 seater with front park assist in Nov 2014 for $30k from Ferntreegully Nissan, Melbourne. At that time no other dealers were going below $32k. So, you should visit few dealers and with a bit of negotiation you should be able to get it. From my experience best time to buy a car is month end and best place to buy a car is from a dealer who is far from CBD because of lower realestate costs.

  • Before you buy the Fiat Freemont read this https://m.facebook.com/destroymyjeep/posts/463731997127722. I have a Mitsubishi Outlander 2013 7 Seater 30000km, I bought from Pickles Auctions last year for $25000. Its only a 2.4 litre four cyclinder and the rear two seats are only good for kids, but I like it. You can find them cheaper now. It has three mode selectable four wheel drive. It uses on average 10 litres in the city and 8 litres on the highway. Comprehensive insurance is also low, around $600 for me. It also has nearly 3 years left to go on the warranty.

rear two seats are only good for kids

Then the suggestion doesn't help the op ;)

      • I have the same car. The 3rd row is quite decent especially compared to similar spec models at that price range. I'm 183 cms and have sat in the 3rd row and found it ok.

    • Thanks, even though I have enjoyed the lite Ace I am not over impressed with service quality of the big T/a. Interesting adventure for the owner of this car in your link. Sadly in these cases one cannot find what is the discussion between the dealer, commissioned sales person, sales manager [KPA not being met and who pays what and what has to be refunded. Looks like one must record conversations, and then transcribe as personal journal [different legal rule in different states as well as what courts will accept]. Im sure a good op would know where to get a spy pen. I Yaho'ed 'Fiat Freemont warning' some things to think about.

  • Neadless to say, At this moment did not buy a car. Lets see whats goes on sale at the end of June or not.
    Thanks to all that helped.

Oh for a simpler life. But at least not bored/boared.
