Deal + Effort Voting System

Hi ozbargainers,

Recently, there has been increasing 'concern' surrounding deal voting where it has become looked down upon to down vote a deal due to the efforts of the OP to collect info. (E.g. dicksmite 3000+ lists). We are seeing an increasing trend in which deals are upvoted based on we efforts.

Therefore, I propose an introduction of a second voting system. Now ozbargaind can vote on both the deal and the efforts. Therefore allowing both a clearer image if the deal but at the same time reward the OP for there efforts with a separate voting tab.

What do u think?

    E.g. dicksmite 3000+ lists

    DICKSMITE!

  • Why stop at 2, lets have 10 ftw.

Seriously though there is enough debate over the one voting system, and there has been a few changes to it over the years.

I am here only for deals. I don't up vote a deal just because the poster put a lot of effort to nicely format the description. And I post deals because I think it will be useful for someone even if it is for one person. Not getting +ve votes for your deal doesn't make it a bad deal but if you get negative votes for valid reason (not for copy pasting description from the seller's website) then it's not a deal.

It's up to the OP how much detail they want to put into a deal…we all appreciate the effort that some people go to..we don't need to vote on it.imo.

Does OP realise this isn't reddit and votes don't mean anything?

That's what I'm trying to say. I have seen countless deals Which are not deals that are upvoted just due to effort.

Deals which get upvoted for effort… Udemy courses, catalogue posts, long lists of electronic products.

Always seems to be the same people putting in the effort probably for the Ozbargainer of the Month monetary incentive.

Capitalism is key in our society though so we should be encouraging more people to put in time and effort!

  • Just set up your own private voting system.
You vote in what ever way you see fit.

  • If we change the voting system as much as the number of times as some people show discontent with the current voting system, we'd probably change voting system too much for the guidelines to mean anything. Frankly, as long as the "bargain" has some value to someone, I think it's worth being posted (and some people might upvote it because it was a reasonable deal). Of course, this "bargain" has different meanings to everyone, but I think as long as it holds some value to someone, there is no harm being it posted on Ozbargain (and being upvoted for that reason).

What would be the point of this voting system? Would you now 'sort by effort'? I know I wouldn't. If you want to reward someone's effort then just go in and post 'good effort, well done' and don't +1 the deal.

    It seems redundant to me.
