I am looking for a return flight from Sydney to Melbourne (TUL) for the following dates/times.
Budget is $200-220 max. Appreciate your help.
Depart Syd: June 05 after 6 pm; or June 06 morning before 9 am.
Return from Mel (Tul): June 08 between 11 am - 2 pm.

This is the long weekend, I would hold out too much hope for discounted fares over that period.My looking didnt show up anything at that price range. $200-300 one way to Melb and $150+ return but I guess you knew that already.
Given you want to leave friday night but seem to be ok arriving saturday morning, what about an overnight train or bus, and flying back, which could be closer to your budget.

You can depart in the evening and arrive early on the 6th then depart in the evening on the 8th and arrive around 7am on the 9th? Be aware it is 11 hours on a train though

Does anyone know how to get them cheap? Like the best possible way? I need to go in mid to late September, want to try to get something reasonably priced.
Also, I'll be with someone from overseas, they don't need their passport or anything do they?
They possibly will need it for photo ID.
Best way to get cheap deals is to sign up to Qantas, virgin, jetstar etc emails.
Check sky scanner, expedia etc as well regularly as well

your best bet would be to price beat a tiger flight with jetstar.
thats still going to end up being just under $400 return.
maybe catch a bus or a train.
