  • Aldi has them but no idea on stock levels

    • Wasnt that a "throw" - not a full blanket for the bed? Or did they have both?

If only they were open now i wouldnt freeze

  • It will be cheaper if you wait until the start of summer. Should be able to get one on clearance from Woolies/Target/Big W etc.

Well the recent $30 Aldi is good. The wattage ranges from 30-125watts in 9 heat settings. Much cheaper than a heater.

Also a standard fleece blanket is a nice backup.

what's wrong with a quilt? in the long term a heated blanket is going to cost $$$$$

    • The heated blanket from BigW we have maxes out at 150w, which gets uncomfortably warm. At 30c kWh, it costs 4.5c an hour to run. Much cheaper than any other heater and more effective than a quilt.

10 mins prior to sleeping, put a hot water bottle (the rubber ones woman love to use during the time of the month) under your current blanket. You will get an environmentally friendly, low cost solution….Ta Da….

    • Heating water costs $$$ but this is much better than electric blanket.. Just saying

  • I'd just buy any branded electric blanket. Preferably one that has an automatic turn off function (you shouldnt sleep with them on).

Make sure you read the instructions on how to fold it properly in the summer. Because if you don't your house will burn down.

    • Yeah, just adding on to what Davo1111 is saying, I've seen cases of low temperature burns on TVs that are caused by the electric blankets.

I bought a magnificent electric blanket last month from Costco. Possibly Sunbeam. It has 9 temperature levels, carbon heating elements so you can't feel wires under you. It is also thermostatically controlled so you can use it while in bed and it adjusts so you don't cook yourself. It's quilted so you can leave it on the bed all year as a decent padded mattress protector and is fully machine washable. Has a one hour and nine hour auto shutoff and numerous safety features. Will heat the bed in five minutes on the fastest setting and was around $140. I love it.

  • I know you are after an electric, but have you considered goose or a duck quilt? You might pay a bit more for it but they are super warm

  • Thanks all for the replies.

I've tried multiple quilts (but not duck-down) but none keep it warm. My room is paricularly big- lots of thin windows. So very hard to get warm.

I've got a power-point timer adapter- so I could buy save some money and buy a more "basic" one.

I'll check ou Aldi, then bigw? Roughly what should i expect to pay- $50?

    • Coles has them, about $20 - $40 depending on size. Ring your closest shops & ask if they still have some.

      Cheers
