Best Performance/Priced VPN ?? Need an Alternative to The Now Dodgy Hola

After just reading about how bad Hola actually is, think it's time for me to invest in a true VPN solution.

Article about Hola: http://adios-hola.org/

What are people using and can recommend, primarily this is for Netflix?

Some background; I am with iinet (and still using the provided Bob Lite modem…yes I know) But also use PS3 for Netflix'ing.

VPN.sh and TunnerBear appear to be some popular ones..

you should keep an eye on deals posted. A lot of DNS providers have been posting deals lately with 1 year subscriptions for crazy prices. I currently use unblock-us but its a little pricey at $5/month considering I've seen deals for $10-20/year being posted.

    • ok yeah will do, so DNS change is all that is really needed in this situation…not a full blown VPN?

If all you are after is to watch other country's netflix then you only need a DNS. id reccomend getflix which also has a vpn if you need one.
        http://www.getflix.com.au/

        • awesome, thx I will read up on this

        • As a bonus, Getflix provide VPN as well…
It's probably not fast enough to stream anything, but handy for security on Public WiFi..

  • I use www.uflix.com.au and have found it works well $2 a month

  • Lifehacker had an article today on same subject

What do you mean now dodgy? It always has been.

  • You could always use something like PrivateInternetAccess as a VPN, not sure if netflix have banned there IP addresses or not…
    $40 USD a year…

  • I went with purevpn, set it up on my router so my smart tv can get the benefit as well. All network traffic is encrypted and i can pump any device through to a different country. fair review: http://reviewmyvpn.com/pure-vpn/

Not the most secure, but for general use (netflix), very fast and had no issues.

I am trialling Getflix and seems to work perfectly so far

    • Agree on the Getflix VPN. I had been using ibVPN, but had constant disconnects on my preferred servers.

Now using Getflix and it is not missing a beat. Download speeds from European servers are near the same as I get with from my ISP direct.

My only question is "what online information about me is Getflix recording?"

  • You can try ZenMate or check out Hola alternatives: https://vpntips.com/hola-alternatives/

  • I would keep an eye out for deals on here. I've scored a few, usually priced but free or discounted for some special occasion, VPN packaged on here. But a lot of the time they're based in Germany or something and their performance isn't the best. I wouldn't recommend using ZenMate like some other OzBargainers have suggested, running a VPN isn't cheap and they're not going to pull it out of their pocket, Hola is proof that these services are making money on the side.

  • Following this post. I am also after a VPN service with do not keep logs and are good speed wise as well.

OP - What did u end up getting ??

    • Getflix for their DNS service, it's cheap and was easy to set-up. Now Netflix on my devices including PS3 look at the US store (so do other streaming services). These guys give you VPN as well I just have not used that yet, have not torrented anything since signing onto Netflix so haven't had the need yet.

        Thanks bro.
I am mainly after a VPN that allows me to download torrents but keeps no logs of me.

I can thoroughly recommend tigervpn, you can find deals via places like stack social/bundle hunt that are cheaper than retail rates

          @Stefce:

Thanks Stefce , Never heard of tigervpn , Will google it now.
Also what do you guys recon for a non US based VPN ? Something like PIA offering multiple locations , decent price but not based in USA.

        • @namz: guys like torguard, tiger or PIA are the top of the chops, multiple nodes in multiple locations with good bandwidth, no limits on traffic or the type, no logs, openvpn support and zero knowledge of data.

  • I would recommend PIA. Very decent for the price and it gives five simultaneous connections as well
