      • Cheers, they stated the same. My parents require the broadband bill sent by mail. I require a electronic bill. Seems you can create a seperate account with the seperate service. :)! Just signed up. Better deal than amaysim.

  • How did you get Vodafone to match?

  • Great deal for those already on or looking to join the Optus network.
Nice to see the prices going down on all these mobile services too.

  • Thanks OP- can confirm additional $10 also valid for cable bundles -as per online chat session info/signup.

  • Anyone knows when this Optus deal will expire?

I am currently with Vodafone but my contract will expire in 2 weeks, I gave them a call and asked to match it, and NO, Aussie Retention Team sounds pretty cool losing a customer. She offered me $35 for 3GB month to month, or $45 for 9GB with 24 months contract. Pretty shocked, Customer Retention Team who didn't try to retain their customers.

I guess I need to go with Optus.

  • Are we able to use this data to tethering?

  • How easy is it to port to optus, if my Telstra prepaid is in my name, but the optus broadband account is in my husband's name?

    • Very Easy usualy with in an hour or 2 but can take upto 48 hours they say, plus if both are on same address than no problem for discount, it is the address that matters they check if the Broadband billing and your new Sim only Plan billing on the same address.

      • Porting from Telstra to optus, with different account names is easy?

  • Why can't they fix their website so it shows the correct amount? I'm keen to buy it, but I know optus and I dont like wasting half a day on the phone to india getting crap like this sorted out.

    • I think it's fixed now.
Before when I continued on, the checkout summary change from $40 to showing $50.
But now I'm trying and it shows $40 the whole way through the process.

      • +1

Yep can also confirm its working now for me using the desktop site

EDIT: spoke too soon. When you go past checkout, its back up to $50

EDIT2: go back then back in to checkout and its back to $40

EDIT3. Oh FFS optus. Now after you fill in your details and confirm the order at $40, it then reverts back to $50 and theres not a damn thing you can do about it at that stage

        • ffs. been going round in circles with optus chat trying to get them to apply the $10 discount. Its like some kind of monty python sketch. And is exactly what I was trying to acoid by waiting until there website was updated.

        • @stumo: went on online chat when I signed up.

Essentially they said it's the $60 plan but I am getting it for $50. So they sent me the link to the " nittygritty" which says $60 plan and what was included. They have to separately apply for the $10 discount. Makes me think it's done somewhere in the backbend.Been assured many times that it will be $40.

        • +2

@stumo: They seem to have realised there's an issue - just received the following email from them:
"Thanks for choosing the $60 My Plan Plus SIM Only(Online May 15) plan, which comes with a great $10 discount.
You may have noticed the plan you currently see on your bill is the $60 My Plan Plus SIM Only(Online May 15) plan. Don’t worry. On your next bill, you’ll receive a $10 credit and you’ll be on the $50 My Plan Plus SIM plan."

        • @EDIflyer:
Nice one Optus. So now I have to keep this crappy (I'm not getting good coverage) plan for 2 months, in order to get the discount I signed up for.

They told me on chat that I would get a $10 discount on my bill this month, so thats what I will hold out for. I need to get the TIO involved anyway, for my optus cable account that they screwed me on, so I guess I will be adding this to the list.

  • Optus are being pretty crap dealing with this. I ordered an upgrade to my plan online yesterday and got an order number. I just called up to get the status and they tell me it will not be activated until the 10th due to a "system upgrade"!

Why on earth would they publish a whole new set of plans if they are unable to deal with customers requesting them? Total madness.

Every other time I've done this they just did it there and then on the phone or over chat.

    • Chat rep told me mine will be active on 4/6, which is my usual billing cycle. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if it actually happens.

  • My son is currently on a $60 My Plan Plus sim only plan with a 12 month contract that expires on 18 June. He gets 5.5gb of data currently but it is never enough! Wondering if he can submit an upgrade order now or will he have to wait until after the contract expiry date?

    • I guess he can do it now but it will come in affect only after 18th June, thats what they do will all the custumers on billing because you already been charged a prorata for the month. In your case your son had already billed for his services untill 18th june so he can call and upgrade his plan which will start after 18th june.

  • thanks OP

  • Can I ask this silly question? I am using Virgin and I understand that Virgin uses Optus network, I'm just wondering if there is a difference between Virgin and Optus network? Optus may allocate less bandwidth or tower to Virgin, so Optus's customers may have a wider coverage, stronger signal than Optus resellers? Thanks.

    • +1

I don't believe so, should be the same for all Optus resellers, apart from those who don't have access to 4G.

It is different with Telstra, as they have Telstra Wholesale (3G) and Next G (3.5G). As an example ALDI is 3G,Boost is 3.5G.

  • Great deal +1. Finally moving our 4 plans out of liveconnected and back to a major player.

Those who have had enough of the shenanigans of vaya/liveconnected i highly recommend this:

Was paying $104 a month plus $15 for tablet data (liveconnect and amaysim). 1x $50 optus plan + 3x$30 optus plans for $140 to give unlimited calls and text and 11gb shared! Great value! Add on $10 per month to the $30 plans and you get an new iphone 5c ($240 over 2 years).

  • Has anyone managed to get this deal for $40 without he optus broadband?

I am on a discounted Telstra casual plan and want to give this a go. But only worth the risk for $40 IMO. Tried on chat and they declined.

Not interested in switching back from Telstra Cable (114mbit) to Optus ADSL2+ (4mbit) again…

    • Optus tried to convince me to switch over to optus broadband so that I would get the additional $10 off (So $40 in total), when i spoke to them on the phone.

      • Dont do it. I've been on optus 100mbit cable for the past 5 years and it has steadily turned to complete and utter shight. I'm getting 3/0.1mbit in the evenings now. It used to be around 80/1.5. Its oversubscribed now with all the new unlimited plans and Netflix.

        • In case you're looking @stumo - I've been getting speedtest results of between 100mb and 115mb all day on Telstra, I do live in Sydney CBD though. It was an effort to get it mind you - Telstra support is shocking.

  • I'm not with optus hence no optus phone number. Actually, I don't have a mobile number at all.
In order to get this deal do I sign up to a pre-paid sim and then upgrade via the link?

    Thanks,

    • Just go to the link and sign up.

  • Anyone move over to this plan? After 5 days since I put the online request though, I get a email saying the order is complete but its showing for $60 a month? Guessing there should be a $10 a month credit on the bill?

Now to get my netflix vouchers!

  • When does the offer ends ??

    • Ends 5 july.

  • Has anyone managed to get Virgin to match? I am currently with Virgin and the contract will expire on Sep, will ask them to match or move to Optus.

  • Received my new Optus bill, just to confirm the 10% GST is on top of the $50 plan right? My bill shows $55, I kept thinking $50 is the total I need to pay

    • with GST mine came to $49.98 after the b/band discount, so should be $39.98 once they sort out the $10 discount for online ordering

have you seen the PDF of your bill? the 2nd page gives more detail - sounds like yours is $55 before GST, so it would be $60 after GST. Remember they've mucked up initially and haven't applied the online discount - they said going forwards we should get a $10 credit on our 2nd bill and the plan itself should become $50/month rather than the current $60/month.

      • Contact Optus by chat of phone and complain and press hard as i did and immidiately they applied $10 credit to my current bill and today i checked my plan is updated to $50 Sim Only Plan plus. And additional $10 broadband bundle discount. Another thing to becareful they charge $2 for paper bill and when you sign in by default its to Paper bill login to your account and set to Online bill to save $2.

        • Thanks - I ordered online and seem to have been put straight onto ebilling, so no $2 charge showing on my bill. Won't push them re expediting the credit as I've moved my b/band away but want to keep the discount ;)

      • Thanks EDI
