Mt. Baw Baw snow quality - school holidays?

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip up to Mt. Baw Baw these school holidays.
I'd like to know from those who have been there/regularly go during school holidays, what the snow quality is like at that time?
I'm wanting to book accommodation soon, but since they don't have a snow guarantee, I'm doing my research.

For the record, I've been to Hotham, Perisher, Thredbo and I'm planning a trip to Buller this year too, so I really don't want to hear advice telling me to go to other resorts, because I'm ex staff at other resorts and I've been there and done that!!

My reason for going to Baw Baw is because I'm an advanced skier currently recovering from an ACL injury - and looking for a nice, cheap and easy stomping ground to work on my snowboarding this season. And also because I've never been!!

Cheers in advance!!

  • Mt Baw Baw is unreliable most of the time at the start of the season it is touch and go.

I've only been for the day but it was pretty sketchy in terms of cover.

When are the school holidays this year?

The best time to go is probably late July - Mid August.

    • School holidays end 12th July…

Was planning on going 8-10th July. I don't work during school holidays, and I'm already booked in at Hotham in the first week of holidays.

Trying to figure out if that kind of timing will be worth a gamble!!

      • +1

The only thing I can suggest is book at the last minute if there is snow.

  • No lifts at Baw baw. only pommal and t-bars. no problem for Skier, but for beginner snowboarders, it can be a challenge.

Sometimes it CAN be good, but the snow disappears very quickly. I will not book now for Baw baw.

    • Yeah, I know they don't have any lift lifts haha…but I need to learn how to use them on my board anyway!! I like a challenge :p
