Good Value for Money Wired Surround Sound System

Hi there,
I moved into a new place and was pleasantly surprised that the previous tenant left all the wiring for 2 rear surround speakers hanging out of the back wall. Firstly I wanted to only get a soundbar, but since the wires are there, I might get a full 5.1 system.

I'm obviously on a budget and was hoping to get something decent for $200-$300.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Bjorn

Not sure sorry, I'm only looking at stuff for $1000 plus at the moment, since I already have something basic.

But… I'm sure you could get better-than-soundbar quality 5.1 sound from a cheap setup - maybe $400 or so?

        This one is $450:

But those speakers are tiny. Maybe you could upgrade them later?

I got the $399 Yamaha amp for $200 from a previous OzBargain deal and 4 speakers I already own for mine. No subwoofer. The sound is OK for my small room, but really great sound systems are fantastic, they enhance movies, music, and cinematic games so much.

Are you a member of Costco? They might have something in that range.

For so little money you will have to go the used route from Ebay etc. There are lots of good stuff to be had but you just need to be patient and have a good eye for quality to separate the treasure from the junk.
