Buying a Car Revs Check NSW

Ok so buying a car in NSW and decided to do a revs check. Found this mob car history that charged me $25 for a report. The issue.

On their website I entered in the wrong vin I missed 2 digits. Based on this they charged me and produced the report with no information whatsoever ever.

Emailed them outlining the error and was told nothing they can do, continued emailing and the agreed to re run the report for me.

Now the issue is that they only ran a PSSR report with the correct information. I highlighted to the, that I can get the same from the government website for $4 and that what I paid for was a more comprehensive report. Once I sent them that email. All I am getting is radio silence.

Just wondering if I wanted to push this a bit further who can I contact ? Consumer affairs ?

Basically I want the report that I paid for.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

  • How did you pay?

  • they only ran a PSSR report with the correct information

What report do you expect? The PPSR replaced REVS, and gives more information.

I think he expected odometer check, theft check, write off check, car current value, previous sales etc

OP sorry to hear your frustration, but in all fairness you should have double checked the VIN number you entered in the first place.. I tried carhistory.com.au with my vehicles VIN, entered it right and it shows up makes and model before going through payment. I tried again deleting last 2 digits, it asks me what vehicle it was, then says invalid VIN. All before asking for payment details. So i dont know how you manage to get into this trouble.

For this amount of money, i reckon just take it as a lesson and move on, any further complications will only cost you more time and money

Edit: upon further checking, i found that they indeed sell PPSR for $25. Their comprehensive report is $36.95. Case closed.

  • If you look around whirlpool, the $20-30ish report is basically a rehash of the PPSR plus the sale history of the car thrown in a fancy looking 6 page report.
I couldnt justify paying that much being an OzB and went for the $4 PPSR report which gives you the important information you need (no encumbrance, not stolen or written off).
I'm sorry to say this but I suggest u stop wasting your time and effort and move on.

This mob carhistory actually sell PPSR for $25! So their logo on PPSR certificate is worth $21!

I think they do that to justify their fancy comprehensive $36.95 report (because $4 to $36 is a big gap). This is crazy rip off, and i have used them like 3-4 times!! Over $120 that I'm never getting back :'(

That is ridiculous. Maybe we should open up our own PPSR check and charge $15 to undercut them :P

        • Exactly! Lol i'm surprise that the govt is not doing anything about it. Thats like going to RMS (RTA), take all the free L and P plates, write my initial in the corner, take them outside and resell for $5 each.

  • The OP is surprised that they are not getting good service from a "company" that is solely designed to rip people off? I'm shocked and appalled!
