GST registration-backdating

Hubby is frustrated and I am trying to help him. Had googled but no luck. Hope some WPs can shed some lights.

More than 9 weeks ago hubby registered for GST. He really needed to backdate it but had wrongly put in current date instead. He then rang and the person told him it can be fixed.

Now within this 8 weeks or so, he had rang 3 times. Different person but same outcome: very polite, apologised, and gave a date of when it would be completed. The last date was this Monday. A lot of swearing and now it's becoming very urgent.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hope some WPs can shed some lights.

    Indeed been discussed there :)

However for data already submitted, maybe this document on ATO would help?

You can use your current business activity statement (BAS) – or a future one – to correct many GST and fuel tax credit mistakes, and to vary a PAYG instalment.

Not too sure about back-dating though.

Can't you just cancel the application and re-register?

From what I can see on their website, the ATO's ability to backdate your registration is limited to four years for tax periods commencing on or after 1 July 2012.

I must say, I'm a bit confused to what your question or request is.

  • Thanks Scotty. He needs to get the right date. Will need to continue to rung ATO.
