Telstra Business or Personal (Advantages / Disadvantages Thread)

Hi all,

I'm thinking about doing some freelance work this year and am pondering mobile plans.

Before I spend hours researching and comparing, just curious if anyone here, who is a small biz owner (sole trader) can tell me if it's better to be on a personal plan or a biz plan?

Which, in your opinion is more cost effective? I'll be working for myself at first with no big plans to bring on staff (other than my wife to help with the books).

Wifey is on a Telstra plan already. Her contract is due to expire this December.

So, in your experience which is better for the first two years of my venture?
Personal or Biz plan?

Thanks in advance!

this for fixed or mobile services?

      Mobile services only.

  • For mobile I would recommend personal plans as they get more promos and flexibility. Telstra still assumes business = rich = pay premium for service. Biz makes more sense if you can get an account manager which would be almost impossible for a single service user.

  • Man,no one has plans anymore
All of u son on amaysim or Vaya !

  • Voda and Vaya for the best cross mix between everything (~$40) and cheap (~$18).

  • I'm back….apologies for not thanking everyone for their input back in June.

Happy to report that next week is my last week at what will hopefully be my last job working for someone else. :)

Some changes have occurred since my first posting here and I hope someone could provide some advice or guidance.

I have a company structure (not a sole trader). Because of this I'm thinking that a business plan would have the following advantages:

    1. The plan will be in the name of the company not me which means
    2. Should things go horribly wrong and I can pay Telstra…the liability is (mostly) on the company. (I understand that for the moment because I am a 'One Man Company' for now I'd still be up for the debt) finally
    3. I can put my wife's phone on the plan and get some of the benefits of data share etc as it is a 'business' plan. (BYO month to month)

If anyone has any experience with the above I'd appreciate your insight.

    Cheers!
