OzBargain 2015 EoFY Charity Donations - $15,000 to Charities of Your Choice!

It's the End of Financial year charity giving time again! This is the 4th year we are doing this (2012, 2013 & 2014 — see our charity donations page), and in 2015 we are going to give $15,000 to the top 3 charities of your choice ($5,000 each)! Just to simplify the voting, instead of taking suggestions from comments I am just going to list out the top 15 charities from last year's poll. The poll will expire after 7 days and note that vote-changing is allowed.

So,

  • 8 June — poll starts
  • 15 June — poll finishes and top 3 charities picked
  • 16-22 June — charities donated

If the charity is listed on GiveNow I usually use that otherwise whatever method suggested on charity's website. Here are the charity websites if you need more information on the charities listed:

What about jv's charity for underused bold and italic letters?

  • You'll be giving to the top 3 charities but does that mean we get 3 votes or just 1?

    • +1

Each person gets one vote but the three charities with most votes get the donation.

  • it seems a little unfortunate, but at the time of writing this, I would have thought that occasionally the Flying Doctors (4th) would check some guys' Prostates (3rd)

I voted Royal flying doctors service because they do such an awesome job :)

  • You mentioned that you would use givenow, but I saw a bargain here (if giving to Fred Hollows foundation or Royal Flying Doctors): https://store.qantas.com/charities.a2

Qantas will match the points used :)
Might miss out on any tax benefit of donation to charities, but the charity may get more by getting some from Qantas as well.

    • Interesting, but you'll need QFF points to start with…

  • Should we put some towards the 4th charity Scotty? Just seems pretty close between 2nd/3rd and 4th :)

    Could be like $4k/$4k/$4k/$3k?

Maybe next time. Don't want the RSPCA guys/gals coming here saying maybe we should give out to 5 charities :) We did donate to Alzheimer's Australia at last year's EOFY though.

Thanks for all who have voted. The top 3 charities are:

    • Médecins Sans Frontières
    • Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia
    • The Royal Flying Doctors

I'll send out the donations later this week.
