        • I would say RAM is more important. 4GB is going to be not enough very soon. It really is the bare minimum in a PC these days.

You can always get external HDD of even use the SD card slot in the Mac as additional storage. The RAM being soldered onto the logic board prohibits any upgradability

        • @abc: It has 8GB already.

  • Any chance to get price matched with HN, and then use AMEX offer?

  • Hello, I am looking for buying a logitech harmony remote, none of your stores in NSW have this.. do you have any plan to restock?

Long time visitor to OZB but first time posting.

Just grabbed one of the Macbook Pro Retina's 128GB for $1539 including postage. Some people here said 128GB wasn't enough, but these units have SD card slots, so you could just slap a large class 10 card in there if and when the time comes that you need the space. Instead of $300+ it might be $30 more. Just an idea?

That what i do on my Macbook Air 128GB. I use this then chuck in a Samsung EVO MicroSD Card.

      • Perfect, thanks!

        • It goes into the macbook flat, so nothing sticks out.

      • Shit you're amazing. I only knew of the niftydrive but couldn't be assed spending over $10 for that crap. This is only $1.61! Thanks!

        • I was actually looking at the SD card specially made for the Macbook SD slot (which cost heaps) when I came across it.

        • @RichardL:

Does that fit the mid 2014 13 inch pro though? It just says it's suitable for the air and pro in the item description. That doesn't mean it will sit flush with the edge though.

        • @trumpedup: I own a mid 2012 Macbook Air, and it sits flushed with the edge. It barely noticeable and doesn't stick out much.

EDIT: Also it only $1.61 so you can try it, and if it doesn't fit, you can give it to someone else.

EDIT2: After some Googling, I realised that Retina has a shorter SD slot, so it will stick out.

        • @RichardL:
Cheers. I thought that might be the case since it didn't specify which macbook it was for.

        • @RichardL: Does this adapter work with 128gb micro sdxc cards? What samsung evo are you using?

        • +1

@crackermo: I'm using a Samsung Evo 64GB microSDXC card from this deal.

Keep in mind that the adapter will only work with a Macbook Air, as the other Macbook SD slot are different size.

        • @RichardL: Ah ok appreciate it mate. So you have no idea if it works with 128 cards?

        • @crackermo: well the 64GB is also a microSDXC, so I don't see why the 128GB wouldn't work. But I don't have a 128GB card to test. Sorry.

If you're doing it that way wouldn't it be more beneficial to just get a 2014 256ssd? Probably cheaper as well.

Used the 20 gift cards bought from the coles promo for this. Took awhile entering the codes

  • iMac 5K, no click & collect near me, no home delivery. Oh well…

  • Expired now

    Macs are bad

  • Good promo - this is only the second Apple promo with discount over 14% I believe?

The first one by Dick was in Aug 2013 when I bought my MBA (still going strong). Dick ran out of stock in minutes however the Apple Store happily price-matched. Maybe this is why they ran the promo from 8pm? No price matching….

WOW, how many people who call themselves as "ozbargainers" and want to buy a overpriced and outdated hardware platform just because - Apple.

    • +1

Not all OzBargainers want to do their computing on the cheapest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

    • Some Macbook line were at least decent for their price i.e. Macbook Air, Haswell line. They were alright compared to the competition at their price point.

I don't really like Apple, I personally think Apple has a monopolistic power on the market and some of their fans can be very expressive. That being said, I wouldn't dismiss all Apple products as "products that are too expensive for what they can do".

      • -2

They are, with the same price you can get much better hardware computers, including laptops from good brands like ASUS. That being said, its just a waste of money - which all of us tries to avoid here -. And I'm not talking as a Apple hater, as I think ipads are better than android tablets for general people (but still overpriced).

The problem I find with other manufacturers' laptops is that I know how decent Macbook Air is in terms of build quality and heat dissipation, whereas it's hard to find out the build quality with other manufacturers. Not because Apple is the best or anything like that, it's just that Apple has the economies of scale in laptop market and Macbook Air has been around for a long time. Other manufacturers have multiple product lines, and they vary in terms of build quality.

Laptops can be really good on paper but it could be awful depending on the heat dissipation and build quality. I've gotten burnt by a laptop that was amazing on paper, because of the heat dissipation issues that the laptop had. The chasis started to break down 3 months in because of the heat damage build up.

So if I look at the laptops that are really amazing in terms of those areas, they usually are premium business laptops/ultrabooks that goes over the price point of the Macbook Air. There probably are comparable models out there, I grabbed Surface Pro 1 when they were on sale for example. That being said, at least, Macbook Air, Haswell, has alright build quality and alright spec at a reasonable price.

I have to admit, I tend to overemphasis build quality and heat dissipation on laptops, it's from what happened to me before.

        • @AznMitch:

I understand your point, really you need to dig more for buying a good computer without problems than just buying apple products. Thats why I put Apple for people who can spend more for that comfort of just buying and running without any issue.

I'm really willing to buy a Surface Pro 3, but it is very expensive as well, at least for me. I'm tired of carrying heavy laptop to class (I study IT, so I need a good machine…)

PS: I guess your laptop was HP brand (they used to have a lot of heat issues).

          Sorry for my English.

        • @alexslx: Ironically I had no issues with HP laptop (and it was actually one of the sturdy ones I've had), that being said, it was a business grade laptop. The laptop that burnt me was actually LG (I never recommend LG for that reason).

Yeah, I do agree with you on that. I tend to recommend those laptops (if someone ask me) from like MS or Apple who I know has a decent service as well as a reasonable build quality. I become really hesistant on recommending other manufacturers, because you really need to do your research.

Surface Pro 3 would probably come down to a reasonable price (though with current exchange rate, it might not come down to like $700) when Surface Pro 4 comes out.

I don't see any problems with your English btw, it's internet anyways. :)

        • @AznMitch: and a bargain isnt a bargain if you dont want it.

        • @RockyRaccoon: Yeah, pretty much. Did I mention that the laptop that I've mentioned, that broke down in 3 months costed my uncle $2000~2500 AUD? SP1 costed me $700 AUD and it's still going fine. I am just going to say, I have my reasons to hate LG.
