Top of the range Mattress recommendations?(Esp for lower bad back/hip)

Hey

I'm sure it's been posted quite a few times, I am looking for advice on a Mattress.

I'm happy to spend $1500-$3500, it's a really tough call between local manufacturers(Adelaide) and main stream brands.
I have lower back issues, so a high spec bed is a must for me!
Just so many options, I am so confused and really indecisive.

Thank you for any advice.

:)

  • Can recommend http://www.ozmattress.com.au/

I have the mid tier bed and think it is great value for money. Though they dont budge on the price, they'll throw in free pillows if you ask nicely!

I'd recommend the grand master one with a silk blend if you can afford it.

    • I can afford it, plus I believe a high quality mattress is the best investment. I already have lower back/hip issues, so it's important to spend the money on a bed.

I have been looking at them, fair few recommend them.

      Thanks

  • I bought mine here http://www.elitebedding.com.au/ my wife and I are very happy with it. I have seen that they have discounts all the time. They make the mattresses on site.

    • Will check them out. Thanks.

We finally replaced our old queen-size mattress and base, and have upgraded to a new king-size bed with a King Koil Chiro Flex 3 MK3 Firm mattress from Forty Winks, paid $1200 for the mattress on sale (normal price is $2099). We've slept on King Koil mattresses a couple of times when we've been away on holidays and loved them and when we tried the various mattresses out in store, we decided to definitely go with that brand. I have back and neck problems from old injuries (thanks to my love of horse riding LOL) and even though my husband doesn't normally have problems, he often woke up with a sore back after sleeping on our old bed and base (which has needed replacing for a long time). We went with the Firm one as neither of us liked the "plush" tops that are on so many mattresses these days and we also bought a bed frame with the mattress rather than getting an ensemble. Have been sleeping on it for a few weeks now and we both love it - no more sore backs for either of us and I'm not waking up with headaches from a stiff/sore neck any more.

    • I was looking at this, it's on sale around $1500 atm.

It has pillow top tho right? The reviews I found online are quite bad! Dammit!

No, the other ones in the same range do, but the Firm one doesn't - here's the link to the Forty Winks page showing the one we bought, and you can see there's no pillow top on it: http://osbornepark.fortywinks.com.au/catalog/product/view/id…

        • I am looking at this one, but the 5. I would also choose FIRM.

I'll look at it again over the weekend! Thanks

        • @lucasyork: You're welcome :) . We've had the mattress for about 5 weeks now, and we're still very happy with it. Good luck, I hope you find the right mattress!

I would at least look at Tempur before you decide .. plenty of places stock it.

    • I'm looking, but many claim an overheating problem with many of their range!

  • Yeah, it seems everyone recommends the same brands but there doesnt seem to be a clear leader! :(

  • Dominos make some grand mattresses - I have one on the spare room for over 20 years now and I swear it is twice as comfortable as the sleepmaker I paid a small fortune for two years ago.

  • Whichever mattress you decide on i suggest taking your own pillow and a book or phone and lay on it for 45min-1hr to really get a feel from it. Jumping from mattress to mattress is deceiving and just confuses the situation.

  • latex is best - also here :)

    • A lot of people do find latex mattresses very comfortable but my husband is a "hot" sleeper and finds latex mattresses unbearable to sleep on. It differs from person to person though, and other people have no problems with the temperature, so it's a matter of trying them for yourself and see what suits.

      • even those that are pin-cored 100% pure latex?

        • Yes, any type of latex mattress, doesn't matter what the composition or construction. We're really happy with our new King Koil anyway, so thankfully don't have to worry about looking for another new mattress for a long time yet!

  • $1500-$3500 for Mattress,I cant imagine how comfortable it will be……A.H.BEARD is famous brand, right?anyway, good luck and lovely weekend

  • I recently bought a mattress for my mother came from overseas just for visit.
It is hard like rock as she also has back problem just like you. I spent $600 for queen size mattress but it is from a local mattress factory nearby.
I did not go with any brand and it is really great. comes with 12 years warranty. I recommend you to find any local mattress factory around your area and find hard one.

  • I have been suffering from lower back problems & I have just bought this firm latex mattress at the weekend ($1350) & the past two nights have been pure bliss. Great mattress :)

    • not pure latex - has foam and pocket springs :(

  • Just need to buy 5 different mattresses, and then choose which to keep! Haha

  • Try these guys out. http://www.ausbeds.com.au/. We purchased a latex mattress from them and that was pretty good. Been using it for two years now without any problems. And very good value for money!

Not sure if they deliver to adelaide though.

  • I recommend Regal mattresses esp healthy life range. I can get better discount for you if I refer you. PM me.

  • I also have lower back problems which can be pretty bad at times. My wife and I bought the Sealy Camelot Posturpedic and I've found that it's been great.

We were in Myer one day looking at the beds and there happened to be a Sealy rep setting something up, he was great to talk to. We spent over 45 minutes with him going through various options. He gave me his business card with 45% off the RRP, including free delivery and disposal of existing mattress. You can quite regularly get 40% off during sales at Myer and DJ's and they also have 45% & 50% off occasional.
