Woolworths Launches Mobile Service with Telstra Network

Woolworths is launching Woolworths Connect, a new telecommunications service offering a network you can trust at a great price.

From Monday 15 June, Woolworths Connect customers can take advantage of two pre-paid mobile options designed with value, simplicity and convenience in mind.

For a $30 pre-paid mobile recharge, customers will receive 1.5GB of data, plus a bonus 1GB (until 31 July 2015 on the first recharge), as well as $650 call value. This will take a customer’s total spend for the first month to only $32 after the $2 sim card purchase.

This rate drops to only $27 for Woolworths Everyday Rewards members who receive 10% off every Woolworths Connect recharge in participating stores. All Woolworths Connect customers will also benefit from unlimited standard national SMS and unlimited calls within Australia between Woolworths Connect customers.

  • 3G though :/

I prefer to be on 3g. I'd blast all my data too quickly otherwise.

Boost $40 still works out at better value than the Woolies $45 ($40.50 EDR) plan, plus you don't just get access to "parts" of Telstra's 3G network, you get the whole thing.

The $30 / $27 EDR plan might be a useful saving vs Boost if you need less data and you make more than the 100 minutes of calls offered on Boost's $20 recharge.

All to use within Australia in 30 days

It'll be good if there was no expiry.

    wow not even unlimited calls.

Still cant beat the old Woolies/Optus Mobile Deal!
    5GB data for $26 every 45 days!

    • +2

Yep. I'll stick on this plan for as long as I can.

  • Recharge vouchers only are available at BWS and www.woolworthsconnect.com.au.

Seems a bit weird, I thought all Woolworths brands would allow recharging?

  • The other option being offered is -

$45.00 or $40.50 for Woolworths Everyday Rewards customers

    3.5GB
10% price discount with a Woolworths Everyday Rewards card (in-store only and at participating stores)
    $1,500 call value
    Unlimited standard national SMS
Unlimited calls for Woolworths Connect to Woolworths Connect mobiles within Australia
    90c/min call rate
    Parts of Telstra’s 3G network
All to use within Australia in 30 days

  • It seems destined to go after odd handful of suckers like twin telco optus have done for many years. Only in 2011, 5GB actually was fresh \unlike 1.5GB (offer zero new).

-who- in their right mind today would actually relinquish rights to Full service Lte Ntwk ±Unlimited nights-feature,Google Play currency ±CM2u $1=0.49GB passes data. Discount this trifling 'bonus 1Gb' and what is left is grotesquely pale imitation, circa 2010\ $26.10\wools 3g_mobile.

Clients would be advised to keep to $9-cheaper 4G vaya - it is about the only realm "$650 call value" competes in.

    • Wut?
      Spectacular communication fail.
I think you are suggesting that the mobile market is less competitive than it was a couple of years ago, and if you are on one of those legacy plans you should remain there?

      • Yes but of course WOW $550/5GB/legacy honoured rechargers would be smart to stick to $26, that delivers value over 45 days!

I think if you are up to date as you on current market, you find MVNO Vaya even has $650/1.5GB open for last coupleyears 4G a$18.
Do you suppose Telstra enhances consumers' choices adding meagerly redundant options in the wholesale market? ah nay.

  • Well out in the rural area of West Gippsland, 'parts of Telstra's 3G network' is almost useless for data connections due to congestion. After 3.30pm to about 7.30pm you can forget mobile data on these cheaper plans cause it doesn't work. I have a 4G Telstra mobile broadband device (yes it's connected full strength to LTE 4G) and even that suffers slight network congestion. I know this is OZB but beware of these cheaper plans if you are expecting a decent service. Don't even start me on Optus, lol

  • After a while are Woolwoths going to sell Connect off to Telstra? Which is what happened the last time I signed up to Woolworths, when they used Optus as their carrier.
