Hired a Truck, Dropped It off out of Office Hours, Suddenly Charged with Punctured Tyre I Did Not Know

They did not contact me regarding this extra charges and just billed my credit card extra $240 cause they found a bolt in the tyre.
I am not saying it is 100% impossible that i punctured the tyre but a very very slim chance of that happening.
I only drove it from Budget Burswood to east perth then my home and back to burswood.
And all this time i have never punctured any of my car tyre, so what are the chances that i got a puncture just on that 1 day when i hire the truck.
How can i make sure their claim is legit?

  • Tyre might have small puncture when you were driving back to drop truck.

    • Bolt might also have been in there when OP picked up truck…

      • exactly my thought. :(

        • As BigTed said, hire car companies are not the most honorable of organisations; they could have known all along, but just been waiting for the next rental to pull this one out of the hat. There was a guy on here last year or so who got stung for "invisible damage" to a rental…I kid you not, a lot of us had serious WTF moments over that one!!!

2jzzzz hit the nail on the head, dispute it with your CC company & make Budget provide photo evidence…that might just be enough to make them revise their little scam. $240 seems somewhat excessive for fixing a puncture as well, even if it was actually flat, you can bet they only plugged it & pumped it up anyway! ;)

    Ask for picture proof.

This is SOP for hire car companies unfortunately.
Search the ABC archives for a Checkout segment in the last couple weeks about it.

  • Just as 2jzzz has said, ask them to provide a photo evidence.
"And all this time i have never punctured any of my car tyre, so what are the chances that i got a puncture just on that 1 day when i hire the truck"
Not to be harsh, but that doesn't make any difference to the chances of you puncturing a tyre.
Just because you got "heads" 10 times in a row, doesn't mean your chances of getting a "tail" is any higher.
