US car insurance options ???

Hi I am going to hire a car in California for about a month I can find reasonable rates for hire but when you add the sli / cdw insurance options it more than doubles the price. I am looking for a discount option to cover myself such as questor (uk). Alternatively if anyone knows a good website let me know.

Thanks any ideas would be great

If you book through Hertz.com.au (not Hertz.com) it'll bundle the insurance you need into the price

Book your car through Rentalcars.com or arguscarhire.com. The costs are all inclusive i.e all you insurances are included (CDW, LDW, Liability etc). You just rock up to the counter, sign some papers, make your way to the garage, pick a car (if they have not already picked one for you) and you're on your way. The only difference in some of the rentals is that upon return some charge charge you for the full tank upfront, thus you can return it empty whilst others and the most common is you return it with a full tank or they will charge you.

Before committing/reserving your vehicle, just check out the pricing over a few days. You can actually save a quote. So if you check a couple of weeks later later and prices have gone up, you can book using your old quote. Also, you can actually cancel a booking beforehand and get a refund if you find a cheaper price elsewhere. I have successfully done both with no issues. However, with currency fluctuations you could lose a couple of bucks. Hope this helps.

+1 for rentalcars.com, they rock for the US. Just a tip, their 24 hour call center can generally beat the online price so it's worth calling in.

  • I used http://www.carrentals.co.uk/ when i went to the US last year.
They bundle all the insurance in so you can make like for like comparisons.

Discovered this trick a few years ago. When you want to rent a car in the US, book it via the UK.
I've used the same site to book in Australia as well. They're very competitive.
