DLC for PS4 Games Purchased from The US

Hi OzBargainers!

Im going to buy the PS4 for 400 at the upcoming Big W sale (Can't resist, need one if Fallout 4 is only on PS4).

It so happens that my sister is visiting the US around the same time and I was thinking of getting her to pick up some games for me.

I have Googled this and am still a bit perplexed.

Will I need to make a US PSN to use the DLC content attached to these games bought from the US?

And is Playstation Plus worth it?

Thanks again!

Yes, you'll also need to get used to buying prepaid cards from the US.

And is Playstation Plus worth it?

Yes, especially for new Playstation users or multiple console owners.

Though the above answers are correct you should note that you can still play these games with the downloaded dlc on your AU account if you're a trophy collector. So yeah, download with your new US account then play it on your old account.

    • Hi sorry if it sounds like a dumb question… Why is it required to buy prepaid cards from US? can't we use CC? Sorry i don't have a PS4 atm, but same with OP might be getting it during the big w sale.. THanks

      • you can only use US credit card or paypal account for US account.
otherwise, you have to purchase prepaid PSN credit from US.

        • Ooo… ok i understand.. Does that also applies to JPN account too? Do we need to purchase prepaid PSN credit from Japan??
Also, could you tell me if i can have all 3 region accounts in 1 console? (JPN, AU, US)
Sorry for the lack of knowledge

yes that's right. you can check them here: http://www.play-asia.com/digital_codes/playstation_network/1…

you can have up to 16 profiles/accounts in PS4. They all can have different regions (US, Asia, JPN, AU/UK/EU).

You can play physical/digital game from any regions. You only need to buy the DLCs from same region as the game for the DLC to be working.

Wow thats great.. And on top of that as what @where's_That_Cake mention if i were to for example purchase a japanese game with dlc, all i would have to do is download the DLC with the Japanese PSN account and once that's done i can play it on my AU PSN account to get trophies?? Is this correct?

Cause i have a PS vita and i know it can only have 1 account/region per Memory Card and once we change it to a different account/region it wouldnt allow to play the games even if i transfer it to the new memory card. This doesnt apply to the PS4 correct??

          Thanks @henrikoez, you've been so helpful :)

Vita can only store 1 account per memory card, so you can't play digital games from different region to earn trophies on your PSN account.

PS4 allows you to earn trophies from other region's games. Once you've installed the DLC to your console, it is accessible to every accounts on the console. Similar to PS3.

However unlike PS3, you have to activate the account (the one with the digital game purchases) as the primary account if you want to play the games with different accounts. The games from primary account is accessible by other non-primary accounts but the games from non-primary games isn't accessible by primary account.

There is no limit on how many you can activate or deactivate the account in PS4 but you can only activate one account as primary account in one PS4.

        • @henrikoez: Sorry you lost me at "However unlike PS3, you have to activate the account (the one with the digital game purchases) as the primary account if you want to play the games with different accounts. The games from primary account is accessible by other non-primary accounts but the games from non-primary games isn't accessible by primary account."

Are you referring to the Digital Game and not the Physical ones? that Digital Games are linked (kinda) to the corresponding region like the PS vita?

For example, if i were to purchase a digital game using the JPN account. In order for me to play i would have to enter/activate the JPN account? I can't play using the US/AU account?

It confuses me more when i try to go indepth with how the PS4 works >.<

this is just for digital games.

let's say you have 2 account. Account A is your main account for trophies, account B is your secondary account to buy cheap digital games from US.

You have bought Hotline Miami 2 with account B. You have to activate account B as your primary on your PS4. Once activated, you can play Hotline Miami 2 with account A (or B or other account registered on the console) and earn trophies.

You bought Shadow Warrior with account A, it doesn't matter if it's primary or not. You can still play the game with account A (and earn trophies as usual) but account B won't be able to play Shadow Warrior since account A isn't the primary account.

  • Perfect thank you!
