What Camera to Buy for a Bargain?

Gday folks

Not an avid photographer, but in true ozbargain spirit, I'm always in the hunt for a bargain.

I currently have a canon 1100d SLR with non-IS kit lens and a sony RX100 (mark 1). The sony did reasonably well on a recent overseas trip. The canon, on the other hand, was frequently just out of focus when using auto focus which was very disappointing.

Went into JB hifi and saw 3 cameras on clearance:
Panasonic GX1 with 14-42mm lens
Olympus Pen (either E-P1 or E-P2) 14-42mm lens
Nikon 1 (?J1) with 10-30mm lens

All cameras are around 3-400.

Would you recommend any of these or do you think I should invest that money into lenses for the 1100d?

I recommend spending a bit more and picking up the RX100 MK3.

It is so much better than the first one.

  • I wouldn't invest in a Canon lens if you can't get the focusing thing sorted. Have you tried setting the focus point to the middle? Then half press to focus on the subject and then re composing the shot?

  • If you wanted to go Olympus I'd recommend the Epl7 good price here

Instead of the ones you mentioned. This has a newer and much better quality sensor.
