Cheap Outright Phone Site That Is Too Cheap?

Hi all,

Was looking around last night on the internet for a cheap deal on a Note 4 and stumbled on a site called earthstormbay.com
Had a quick look and their phones seem way too cheap (even on iPhones)
I had a look around the site to see if they were new in box, used, refurbished, and anything else and couldn't find much about it at all.

Is this a case of it's too good to be true and I should stay away? Also wanted to see if anyone else had come across this site or knows if it has been renamed from another site?

I did a few different searches related to this site but can't find anything on the web about it.

Any help would be great, was thinking of even buying something really cheap off the site to see what I get.

Thanks in advance

  • It's a pretty new site, only registered on 15 May 2015. So doubt anyone would have used it yet

If it's too good to be true, it often is.

This is apparently the person that runs the site

    Ah huh

New site, no other digital footprint on address searches… Stay away unless you have money to give away (in which case I want some :P )

  • I would avoid, if someone can sourced it cheaply, if would be one of the grey sellers like Kogan, DWI, eglobal and will be all over ebay by now.

  • Do they accept paypal?

    • Apparently so according to the website, but as the others have mentioned it seems too good to be true and I don't feel like throwing money away. Hence why I am constantly on ozbargains and looking for the cheapest phones :)

      • Well if you felt like buying something cheap use paypal as you have buyer protection but as others have said if it is too good to be true it usually is.

Their NZ address doesn't even exist.

And their Canadian address is on a motorway haha

  • Also found a site which is just like a direct mirror of this one apparently based in Malaysia. abalacoco.com

Totally dodgey! Thanks to all those who have commented so far and for helping me save my hard earned cash :)

  • Today a booklet appeared in my letterbox called "Letterbox Deals". I've had them before, always have a flick through and then toss it but today, an ad inside the back page caught my attention.

No website, just two email addresses and a heap of too good to be true prices. I don't want to comment on the legitimacy of the business, but I'd personally stay well away. I did Google them, didn't find much other than an application to wind up a business with the same name in 2008 which may be unrelated. If there's any Sherlocks out there that want to do more digging, do let us know what you find.

Wasn't going to post anything anywhere but upon reading this thread, thought it would make an interesting addition.

    • Wow sh*t like that shouldn't even be published like that without an ABN or something

      • It definitely struck me as out of place as the booklet has always (at a glance at least) contained ads for well known and legit businesses, this ad really doesn't fit the publication at all.

I've also found this during a Google search, much the same as what's in the letterbox deals booklet.

It's concerning that this stuff is now making it to print.

    • I emailed them lol :)

Interesting… found this when I googled their email https://books.google.com.au/books?id=fRHyCAAAQBAJ&pg=PA43&lp…

I'd seriously try and contact the publisher that sh*t shouldn't be allowed to be published .

Gonna send them a email haha. The iPad 4 prices seem legit

    • I got a response! Even Gmail flagged it as possible spam/scam!

      I enquired about an S6.

      • And I'm baiting further to just say I was looking to pay by credit card lol

I'm acting like an elderly person (my grandson said that's a great price for the S6 etc) :)

        • Hows the baiting going, any more replies etc?

      • I've been wondering how many of these things are printed/distributed. Auspost delivers them so it could be a huge amount, not sure if they ignore the no junk mail signs for this or not.

I've got a really bad feeling the ad is going to be reasonably successful, I'd like to have more trust in the general public to recognise this for what it is but, well, you know.

Hopefully they (letterbox deals) already know about it and will vet future advertisers a bit better from now on.

I received spam once and was told that anyone that says they use Fedex in Australia is a fraud.

      • I also emailed them and they replied with an exact copy of that email. After some research I found that they have about 30 profiles on various company database websites. However some of the information differs between them such as the net worth, income and profit. Even though they all have the same name, address, phone number and directors, their net worth is supposedly $6 million and their assets are listed as $4 million. I SMELL BULLSHIT. They are also not listed as a company in their postcode on a legitimate site, so I think they have just spammed company databases with the same information. They have casio.com listed as one of their websites (which are a real manufacturer of things like pianos and calculators) and this website http://aeromet.co.uk/ "UNDER CONSTRUCTION". I called the numbers on one of their company listings and that email and BOTH WERE NON-EXISTENT NUMBERS!
This is an absolute SCAM. Spread the word on scam websites or whatever, because thousands would've received their ad in the mail.

  • Completely dodgy.

I bought something off these guys.

Only backed out once they wanted me to send my credit card and copies of mail to go with it.

They ended up refunding my purchase but yeah I'm still worried about the details of mine they do have.

  • I also came across the same advertisement and details as provided by spackbace in locanto.com.au. The ad states they are a company based in the USA and the person that replied to my enquiry was Derrick Foxx. The ad appears multiple times and there is one for each state in australia using the same details and price tag. The same add appears but this one seem to come from the usa. i asked for the name of company and their website address and was given a reply that they are a partnership and the rest of the information is a repeat asking me to complete the form to get a quick sale. It smells a SCAM.

Additional to this is another mobile phone sale advertisement from a company based in Sydney call xtrememoble from a sale rep call Sean Kester. This one seems more legit but I am still cautious. Wonder if anyone has any dealing with them. I did a google search of Co and it appears to be a mobile phone repaired not a seller. The ad is for sale of brand new unopen iPhone 6 64g for $600 which is very cheap. I have been getting follow up email daily asking if I am interested in buying the phone and they are even throwing in free postage. Does not offer paypal unless purchase is for 5 units or more but was given Co ABN no. and assure that co. is legit.
Here is an extract of email to me from sales rep Sean Kester Sep 5 (4 days ago) to me

    "Hi Ann,

Like i earlier said, i am a sales rep for a mobile distributor company based in NSW. I made that ad listing with business verified option and that was why i was able to advertise the items to various cities across different regions so as to get more interested buyers, if you check well you'll see the authenticity of the ad.

We are mainly operating an online store, currently not pickup or accept cash right now, that is why we are offering free postage. I can assure it will be delivered in time just as ordered and paid for cos we use an express standard shipping option so there is nothing to worry about.

Seems he's linked with multiple sites and ABNs

Just avoid ;) Anyone that does business via email shouldn't be dealt with for anything, but especially for something >$100
