Mstar S700 5.5" 720P Android Phone USD $133.99 from GearBest (MTK6752, 2GB, 16GB, 4G LTE)

430
GBMRS7

Edit: GearBest updated the coupon code. It was taking $36 off and now only taking $26 off. $133.99 USD is still the cheapest but not as good value as previously.

Cheap low-end Chinese no-brand Android phone that's packed with features (for it's price). USD $133.99 after coupon code GBMRS7 (~AUD $174) with choice of black or white apparently the coupon code is for black-only. Some specs:

  • 5.5" IPS screen with 1280x720 resolution
  • MTK6752 + Mali-T760 (mid range octa core from MediaTek)
  • 2GB RAM + 16GB flash
  • 3000mAh battery
  • 3G: 850/900/1900/2100MHz
  • 4G: 800/1800/2100/2600MHz
  • Dual SIM + microSD

It actually has a fingerprint sensor at the back. Review on YouTube.

      • Hard to tell. I'm using the Optus network (Amaysim) and 4G hasn't popped up on my display either at home (Woden) or work (Bruce). I bought the case as well and found it odd that the physical buttons are all on the inside of the hinge!

To make things worse… the bl**dy thing has gone and died on me. Haven't got around to talking to Gearbest about the repair/replacement process - but I don't think that things are going to be straightforward.

        • Well I worked out why mine was so crap, because the old technology sim card (ie. full size) needs to go in the new technology sim slot (4G). Guess I'm going to have to cut my old sim card down for the new technology micro sim slot. sigh

I also found the buttons inside the case where you cant access odd.

That's not good news. Though that happened to me with my last china phone. I should go check what the warranty is, as the one a few years ago was only 3 or 6 months.

They just released a new firmware update which might help if it actually turns on ? https://www.facebook.com/Mstar.hk

        • @Psychd:

Sorry for delayed response - holiday :-)

Firmware update is unlikely to help as the phone is unresponsive. Thanks for the idea tho'. Interested to hear that I needed to use the microsim slot for 4G. Great manual (not!).

Phone turned itself off (close to fully charged at the time). Won't restart / doesn't respond to charger. Tried removing the battery and recovery-style reboots without any sign of life.

As I'm back home, I'll contact Gearbest about remedies - but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Got mine. Awesome phone. Fingerprint scanner works brilliantly for me. Google Play Store was already installed. Happy to answer any questions.

    • Hows the 4G ?

      • Works same as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I had. All good. I have a bunch of small complaints about the phone though.
