Moving to Perth for Studies

Hey guys,

So i got accepted into Murdoch University to do a Masters program, and will be relocating there.

At the moment i am looking for a place to stay around Murdoch University, and am looking for a place that is around $150, clean bathrooms and kitchen, with A/C, washing machine, internet and bills included.

Also want a reasonably sized room big enough to fit me and my stuff for studies.

Am i asking for too much? is it unreasonable?

I hear that food is more expensive in perth than in melbourne, which causes me to allow less for rent.

Are there any regulars here from W.A.?

  • Congrats! $150 sounds possible especially in the current WA economy. My mate easily got a 25% rent reduction from his landlord simply just by asking. You could use Gumtree to find your accommodations like this one

  • As someone who moved to Perth to study I feel obligated to help you out. What you are allowing for rent you should be able to get something close to uni. Murdoch is 15mins from the city and there is a lot of student rentals around the area. Try looking at ones located in the murdoch and winthrop area. Either look on Gumtree, flatmates.com or Facebook group called Perth houseshare/flatshare/room for rent.
With regards to food being more expensive I haven't noticed that for groceries. Going out for dinner can be but I generally stick to cheaper value for money places. If you need anymore help let me know. Good luck in your search for a place to rent

    • Thanks mate. Great to make some new friends.

How much do you pay, where do you stay?

  • I pay 200 a week it would be much less but I prefer only living with one housemate. Mine is in Como with river views so you get what you pay for.
